Yes. You burn calories just getting out of bed and walking around. What your exercise bike does for you is just estimate the No of calories it 'thinks' you've burned.

These calculations are normally based around a 25-35 year old female of average weight (those most common to exercise or purchase the product for home use) and are programmed into the machine when it is manufactured.

If you can exercise at a constant speed and just about manage to hold conversation then you are in your fat burning zone. Heart rate aside, this should be enough to ensure you are working hard enough but not 'too' hard that you risk injury.

Everything you are doing is right so keep at it. If you need motivational support or help setting goals then email:

Most movements and exercises involve burning some significant amount of calories. You can generally tell you're getting a good workout and burning calories if your heartrate is in a certain range during exercise (you can look for a chart around your gym or on the internet to see the exact range). If you're not getting a good workout, try going faster or increasing resistance.

when your body moves at any rate you burn calories.. it your bodies fuel... it you want to burn more then you need to increase your heart rate by going faster.. i can run for up to 12 hours (YES HOURS) at a constant rate and not get tired,,,but as soon as i increase my speed i can become winded... you should try the pre programed workouts on the stationary bike,, they are great...
