Pilates is fantastic! Its really hard work, yet relaxing as you have to concentrate on what you are doing, there's no time to think about any troubles.

When I first started to do pilates a few years ago, I didn't change any other aspect of my life~ still munched naughty food, still partied, still lazed in bed on Sunday mornings but went to a pilates class once a week. I lost a whole dress size in 2 months just by strengthening my core muscles and improving my posture. Obviously that made me address the rest of the naughtinesses!

Going to a class is much better than a video, as there is a strong sense of camaraderie and when your struggling to do an exercise, you look back through your legs and the woman behind makes you laugh you enjoy it more, also the teacher will make sure your doing everything correctly so you don't cause yourself a mischief and can modify the work out to suit your level of fitness and competence.

You can buy the yoga mats but to be honest don't bother until you know that you like it, the class should have some for you to use. Take a hand towel, some water, clean socks as you need to take your trainers off and maybe wear a thin jacket so that once your into the swing of things you can whip it off when you get a bit hot. Other than that all you need is yourself.

Good luck!

It depends on where you're studying it or whether or not you're going to be using a Pilates machine. I guess I'd say bring a towel and wear loose clothing in case you do floor exercises.

Don't be nervous. It's wonderful. And it will change your body in a very short time. Good luck.

Bring very comfy clothes and water. Pilates are very difficult but are very effective. Make sure to slow down if you feel like you're hurting yourself. It's easy to get injured if you don't start out slow. If you're in a beginner class, though, don't worry at all. The instructor will be able to know how much your body can take at a time. Classes are much better than the videos because you can get more of a personal workout so you don't injure yourself.
