Occasional discomfort felt in left knee, unless i straighten out my leg?!

Question: am i getting a little unhealthy ? i have the occasional drink each night, but im starting to cut down, im a 15+ cig smoker a day, trying my hardest to cut that down too, besides walking there is little next to no other strenuous cardiovascular activity going on in my life - i use to be a lean healthy guy 7 years ago, but i seem to have let my health go down the pan since.

Im around 5'5, 5'6 and I do feel physicaly uncomfortable with my build, in that I think im too over weight for my build/stature. I weigh about 14 stones, so in lbs im guessing thats 14 x 14, and as i punch in that calculation into my cell phone calculator - im further shocked to tell you that equals 196 lbs. :-|

MY GUESS is (sorry for e-shouting) , is that its just that, its the fact im 196lbs and 5'5 which is the reason my knees ache if i ascend a flock of stairs or even worse, if i squat down too long .

If this is not the reason, or not the only reason why im getting knee joint aches, please tell me why.

lsn i am a doctor you dont need to worry that much,,
if you do carrry heavy wieght around then you should stop,,
you also have to stop smoking ,,the leg issue doesnt have to do with your smoking,, but it will cause damage if you were wondering,,
i am advicing you to make an x-ray to your leg,,
i cant really help you online,, you must see a doctor,,
untill then,, do not carry wieght around,, try a morning walk,, and decrease the smoking,
what would really help you is to also lay back,, and relaxe,,that is very helpfull..also try messaging your knee
doctor laila,,

All of the above plus you may have a clot due to your cholesterol level therefore poor blood circulation.

This year I have gained about 45 pounds and I am about the same height as you, so I know I am almost fifty pounds overweight. Recently I have been having problems with my knee as well. It wouldn't always hurt, but going up stairs or at night it would hurt and stiffen up. I had to ice it sometimes. I feel now that both my knees get achey and so do my hips. Overall, I can feel the stress of the extra weight now as well. I have never weighed this much in my life. I guess after I turned 40, I quit smoking and let the pounds pile on.
I believe your knee is hurting because of the weight. Unless you have done some damage to it recently, that is the only thing I can think of other than the extra stress from your physique.

Good luck!

Could be acid imbalance in the blood. there is only one time when you can do anything-- right NOW- You need to change your mental attitude to food, exercise and healthy living. It is not unusual to feel bloated ( you say uncomfortable), as you seem to be 4 stone overweight, so you need a determination that will take time to develope. At your age leave the strenuous activity to others, go for walking dancing and swimming, ie- bouyancy- no fast swims. And no cutting down on smoking- just stop- now! Have a beer by all means- one and one only. Eat plenty of fruit and fresh veg, use olive oil and garlic, very little red meat, and if you are now retired or close to it- take either lunch or dinner - not both particularly if you are in a sedentary occupation.
