Slow-release energy vs speeding up metabolism?!

Question: I'm a bit confused about the different diet advice i've heard.
Low GI foods are supposed to release energy more slowly, which supposedly helps you lose weight. However, apparently a fast metabolism is desireable for losing weight. Don't these two pieces of advice conflict each other?

No. They are two different things.
Low GI foods keep blood sugar levels regulated and therefore are the more preferable form of carbs.
A fast metabolism simply means that chemically, your body uses what it's fed more efficiently.

A simple piece of advice is that people with a fast metabolism utilise their food more quickly and tend to be skinnier.
Speeding up your metabolism can be achieved by eating smaller meals more frequently so that you are using most of what you are eating without it sitting in your digestive system.

Slow release carbohydrates give a long energy release, but this does not mean you should fill yourself to the hilt with them. Simple sugars give a quick energy burst, but too much of it is simply wasted or stored as fat.
