Is it ok to eat 1200 calories a day?!

Question: i'm 15, 5'7 and 100lbs. trying to maintain this weight, i know i'm underweight, but i'm not going to gain. i have no idea how to maintain my weight and have basically been eating a lot (2000 calories?) gaining, restricting (500 calories) losing, etc. i need to stop yo-yo dieting, it's getting ridiculous. i've reached my goal weight and i'm not really sure what to do, i have an eating disorder but have (very slowly) been recovering for a while, as long as that means i don't gain any weight. i don't want to lose anymore because i don't want to completely lose my boobs and i don't want the gap between my thighs to get bigger. also my parents and boyfriend say i am too thin. basically, what i'm saying is if i eat 1200 calories of healthy food, and burn 500 calories through exercise (on average) could i stay this weight? and 1200 calories is just enough right? i have intentions to be healthy, but being thin is more important. can anyone help me out here?

burn 500 calories extra (general walking living) eat 1600 calories a day:) you wont put on weight... if you do then drop to 1200 for a wee while.

try putting on a tiny bit of weight? i was 100pounds at 5'4, everyone said i looked a bit skinny. kate moss is 104 pounds... how about that!:)

1200- 1500 calories a day are recommended for people trying to lose weight. Seeing as you are trying to maintain, try 1800 calories, plus your exercise.

honey - you need help but not with dieting!!! do not do this to yourself! being that thin is not attractive! are you working on your eating disorder with a professional? if you are then please go by their advice! best of luck

For your age and height I think a little bit more would be ideal; 1500-1800. But as long as you don't go below 1200 you should be fine.

omg.. 5'7' 100 lbs???? that is extremely unhealthy... I'm 5'7' and weigh about 140

mitch

What you are doing is the right thing. You have caculated your diet so your fine.

Try to eat at least 1200 calories a day so your body doesn't store fat.

eating less than you should may help you stay thin now, but youre gonna gain later on because it shuts down your metabolism. you should at least gain a few pounds, 100 is really unhealthy for your height

Well I am 6' 3" and I am supposed to eat 5700 calories a day to maintain my muscle and weight. So I would be quite confident that for your height (only 8 inches shorter) that a diet of only 1200 calories with exercise would cause you to lose weight. I would go with 1800 calories with exercise to maintain that weight.

I can't force you to gain weight, but I can help give you ideas to be as healthy as possible, albeit underweight.

Eat as many vitamin rich foods as you can, like fish.
Also, lots of veggies and fruit, as they will give you the vitamins you need, without consuming loads of calories.

You may also want to think about taking protein powder or something ... I know it sounds nasty, but put a scoop into a glass of water and then drink it... this should hopefully help make up for the proteins you're missing out on. OR, if you're willing to consume more calories, make a smoothie w/ the powder, instead of water, I have one everyday for breakfast.
