Can you do crunches in an upright position?!

Question: Only if you're doing cable crunches. There's no point to doing crunches in an upright position because the strain to the abdominal muscles is caused by the force of gravity working on your upper half as you try to raise your shoulder blades off the floor. If you do crunches standing up, there's no strain involved, no effort involved, and therefore no benefit involved. Cable crunches involve using an overhead cable (which you can find at a gym or on a Bowflex) which provides the strain to the muscles. Remember, the whole idea of exercises like this is to get your muscles to WORK.

No, of course not. If there is an upright ab exercise it would be very different from doing crunches. And there are plenty upright exercises for abs that work. You could probably search for them on the internet or ask a trainer at a gym :) good luck.
