Another crap shoot, a good multi-vitamin brand?!

Question: It's like nobody really knows anything once again. I read that some multi-vitamins aren't absorbed and are practically useless... those are the cheaper, drug store brands... so really most.

However, everything else out there seems to come from a nobody company that's seemingly borderline scam.

Doesn't anybody know what's real?

Your body can absorb about 20% of the nutrients in a multivitamin tablet. The brand doesn't make any difference; the cheap store brands generally have the same percent daily values as more expensive types such as Centrum. Taking chewable tablets like Flintstones will not affect your absorption, and only makes sense if you have trouble swallowing pills. Taking a pill that doesn't contain gluten or other fillers can help avoid malabsorption in the case that you suffer intolerance (not allergy) to one of these fillers, but won't make a difference otherwise.

If you are worried about your levels of a certain vitamin, such as B12, you can take an additional supplement in a higher dose that is administered sublingually (under the tongue) as either a dissolving pill or a liquid. You will absorb this form more readily. However, this should only be done with vitamin C and the B vitamins, which are water soluble and easily excreted if you take too much. Don't try to take more vitamin A, D, E or K than is in a multivitamin unless it is on a physician's advice, as these vitamins pose a serious threat of overdose.

Vitamin supplements are just that: supplements. Regardless of the brand, they aren't meant to provide all the vitamins your body needs. In addition to taking your daily multivitamin, you need to make sure that every day you are consuming a good variety of vitamin and mineral rich foods, including fruits and veggies of all colors.

Take Flinstones vitamins they are the exact same thing as a regular multivitamin for adults.

My mom swears by Solaray and her doctor recommended them. I also use them. They don't have additives, preservatives, etc. and are free of soy, wheat and gluten which some people can be allergic to. You can find them at health food stores.

I use NOW ADAM

I used to work in retail--manager of health and beauty aids which included vitamins. I had a sales rep from Pro-biotiks come in once in a while. He said one of the reasons their products were different was because they were chelated. Its been a while and all I can really remember about this was that the chelation process allows the vitamins to be absorbed more efficiently. I'm no expert in this area so will give you the website from my bottle---www.pro-biotiks.com. Hope it helps.
