What do you think of the Atkins diet? What can I snack on if I am on the Atkins !

Question: I am tired of boiled eggs.

Answers: I am tired of boiled eggs.

I lost 90 pounds seven years ago on the Atkins plan. I snacked on meat, colby cheese, dill pickles, and deviled eggs. Truth was, I ate so much of my soup that I really didn't ever get hungry. This was my soup: tomato juice; chicken bouillon cubes, a few diced tomatoes; red onions, diced; diced celery, diced garlic; shredded cabbage; a few diced carrots, chopped bell peppers; sliced okra, seasoning as desired; and LOTS of ground red pepper. Sometimes I used pork steaks in the soup. Just tossed in the steaks and when it had simmered a couple hours, I took the steaks out, cut them into bite sized pieces and put them back in. I never did get tired of the soup.
When I wanted a sandwich, I put the meat and mayo between two large lettuce leaves. I have kept the weight off with a moderate diet. NO SUGAR.

carrots?

i lost weight very easily but i was sapped of all of my energy. i just gave up after 6 months and managed my weight like a normal person. i got tired of eggs too, so i often switched up my snacks with low carb protein bars like Carb Rite, ricotta cheese w/ cinnamon and almonds, celery and low fat flavored cream cheese, and green pepper strips with ranch salad dressing. Canatalope is a nice change too and lower in carbs than some other fruits.

walnuts almonds, cashews, caulflower and ranch, lunch meat, cheese in moderation.
It works really well if you can stick with it.

the atkins diet is not a very good one as it cuts out carbs any diet which cuts out a main food group is not right and having boiled eggs for snacks can't be a good thing you might lose the weight quickly but as soon as your're finished it will all come back on. Go for a healthy diet instead and your breath wont stink

jerky

cheese. My husband likes the Atkins plan but for me I just need fruit. If you need something crunchy try pork cracklings. You can find them in the chip isle. They are salty and crunchy. I liked dipping them into cottage cheese, when I tried the diet.

You can snack in pork rines & sugar free jello with cool whip. I hated that diet, i felt terrible & when i went off I gained all the weight back plus more.

I tried the Atkins Diet and did lose weight but I didn't keep it off because I couldn't stick with Phase 2. I love carbs! It's a difficult diet to maintain for life but good for quick and temporary weight loss. I don't think it is a healthy, well-balanced diet to keep for life. The South Beach Diet was a lot easier to do and my weight stayed off. Regular exercise is a must on any diet to keep weight off. I do Group Power (weight classes to music) and Group Active classes three times a week and watch my carbs and the weight stays off. I just can't stay on a diet that asks me to limit my carbs drastically. I make sure I eat the "good" carbs and will treat myself to things like burgers, fries and potatoes occasionally.
Good luck!

I graduated with my Bachelor's degree in Nutrition a year ago and none of my professors recommended the Atkins diet. I don't either! Your body NEEDS nutrients that this diet does not allow you to have. Your body does not know how to digest so much protein. A link has actually been shown between the people who have been on the Atkins diet and an increase in colon/rectal cancer because of the lack of carbs/fiber that this diet does not allow you to have. Your body needs fiber and carbs. The best diet is a BALANCED diet and the Atkins diet is anything but that. Try these diet tips.

Eat whole grain fibers/carbs. They are GOOD for your body and will help your digestive system.
Eliminate soda and all other drinks. Drink water. This will save you MANY calories.
Eat 2-4 servings of fruit a day and 3-5 servings of vegetables a day.
Eat 2 servings of protein a day.
Eat 2-4 servings of dairy (since you are on a diet try low-fat or fat free products) a day.
Start with 1,500 calories and exercise for 30 minutes three times a week.

All that takes to lose weight is a good diet/exercise regimen and a lot of self discipline. I know you can do it!

I think the Atkins diet is okay, but only in moderation. People tend to only eat proteins, which damages one's liver and kidneys. The thing that most people misconstrue is that you should cut out all carbs. That's not true--the diet suggests you go for whole grain carbs (whole grain bread, brown or black rice, whole grain pastas), not simple sugars (like white breads, sugar, and high fructose corn syrup).

Eat fruits and veggies as snacks--they have lots of fiber, and if you take a small container for dip, they taste better. You can also eat whole-grain cereals (I like Cheerios and wheat checks), a handful of nuts, or sunflower seeds.
