Does this sound like a good idea?money and weightloss question.?!

Question: I keep trying to lose weight and I never end up doing it. I also love to shop with my allowance. Does this sound like a good idea?... To save up my money and not spend a dime of it until I weigh 140lbs? Right now I'm 170. If I have a really good meal plan but not a whole lot of exercize how long will it take me to lose that much weight?(ill consume only 1200 calories per day.)

1200 calories a day is malnutrition, and no one can handle that for long. Try making sure you have 8 servings of fruits/veggies... make sure they aren't cooked with butter or anything else unhealthy... and drink 8 glasses of water.

What also helps for me is to figure out that what I've done most of my life is eat with the thought of "I had better eat as much as I can handle now, because I won't get another chance to eat for X amount of time".... that kind of thinking, ingrained in us by well-meaning moms who wanted us to clean our plates at meals... causes us to overeat as adults. It doesn't matter if your next break is 15 min later or 15 HOURS later - don't feel you have to stuff yourself just to "make sure you're not hungry later."

Basically if you just eat 8 servings of veggies and fruits, and drink 8 glasses of water a day - you should lose weight very steadily. Then when you reach a REASONABLE goal - say, half your REAL goal, then reward yourself with a shopping trip! Too many times I've rewarded myself with.... sweets, lol. Talk about undoing so much hard work!

I am 40yo male and I (was) 215lbs. My wife and I have a weight loss bet, who can lose 10% of there body weight first. MONEY is a great weight loss motivator. She is 137 so 22lbs for me and 14lbs for her. So I have been on a "diet" for 7 days (600 calories a day; no time for exercise) and have lost 13lbs.

Good luck
