Ice or heat for sore muscles?!

Question: I'm a track runner, so I usually stick with hot.
But is the ice better?

Alternate from cold to moist heat. Don't use a regular heating pad unless your Dr tells you to. My chiropractor said moist heat is the best and you can get a moist heat heating pad at Walgreens or any other drugstore.

Im not a track runner but I always go for heat

Do cold then switch to heat dont do heat then cold otherwise might do some damage to the bones!

ice it down right after you run then when you get home put some heat on it

Heat helps the pain, but cold helps the swelling, so sometimes it can be better. Try cold and then see what works best for you.

Ice is for immediately after an injury to reduce swelling and inflammation.
Heat is for therapy to relax the muscles so they can heal.

It depends. If you have an injury, then you need to ice it. Wait 24 hours before applying heat. Then, if it's possible, the best thing to do is contrast hot and cold. Fill up one bucket with cold water and one with hot (not too hot). Soak in hot water for 3 minutes and cold for 30 seconds. Repeat 2 more times. If it's just sore, achy muscles, then heat is best.
