Is it better to exercise before eating, or an hour or so after eating?!


Question: I go to the gym, to either do my own cardio work-out, or to attend a class. Sometimes just before going I am really hungry and am not sure if I should eat, or wait until I get home. Does anyone know what is the better option?

if u r trying to loose weight its is not a good idea to eat then go down the gym coz what ull be doing is basucally burning what u just ate .. and after 2 hours of excercise u go back home with the same weight + a little tired!! so if u trying to lose weight go down the gym then come back and have some nutretious low fat low sugar high protein food + vits & mins.

if u trying to build up muscles eat a lot of carb + protein before u go to the gym then come back and eat even more carb and protein.

the best thing to do is eat healthy carbs 3-4 hours before going down the gym then immediatly after eat protein

Have a little something before you exercise. You need energy and water. But don't have a large meal before exercising.

A light carbohydrate rich meal is best right before a workout.

It is definitely better to eat after exercise! Apart from avoiding a stitch you are probably more likely to chose a healthy option after exercise rather than a quick fix. You will also be hungrier after exercise and are able to replace some of your lost energy! If you must eat before something light is best.

Try to eat Carbs (Carbohydrates) earlier on in the day (3 hours or more, before you exercise) to give you energy for the gym - your body will burn the Carbohydrates as ENERGY when you work out.

About an hour before you work out you can take a Protein supplement or eat something small, but high in Protein - your workout will then convert the Protein to help build muscle.

If you eat Carbohydrates AFTER a workout, your body will not break them down, and the Carbs will instead turn into fat, so do not eat them after physical activity!!!

Excercise after because if u exercised before and then eat u will get the calories tht u burned an more!

look up the glycemic index.
foods low on the glycemic index are complex carbohydrates and are released slower; therefore they are better before workouts.
foods higher on the scale are known as "simple carbs" and are turned into energy rather quickly; spiking insulin levels. (breads, pastas, etc.) These are better post workout (espeically after intense training)
