Why do my shins hurt when I walk on the treadmill? what can I do to prevent this!

what is happening to you is a buid up of lactic acid. it can actually be quite painfull ive known some people who have found it difficult to walk afterwards. the trick is to keep at the treadmill and the stronger your muscles become the less lactic acid is produced.

Maybe they are just too tight.

You need to wear supportive athletic shoes on a treadmill especially if it does not have a good cushioning system.

Also, are you trying to do too much too soon?

this could be shin splints. That comes from walking on different surface or with different shoes than you are used to. Stretch your calves before and after you work out. Stretch the next day. Allow yourself time to rest. Say walk two or three days and rest a day.

YOU NEED TO STRETCH THEM OUT BEFORE YOU WALK.
MINE ALWAYS HURT IF I OVER DO IT WHEN I START WALKING. TAKE IT SLOW AT FIRST THEN WORK YOUR WAY UP.
