Bicep curls. Is 5 lb. enough to tone or should I do 7.5?!

Question: to tone your arms, you need to find a weight that allows you to complete between 10-12 reps. 5 lbs is probably too light. if all you have available is 5 lbs and 7.5, and you can do 10 reps of either one, grab the 7.5 lbs and do as many reps as you can until your muscles begin to burn really bad and you cannot do another rep. then take a 1 minute rest, then repeat. take another 1 minute rest, and repeat again. this is the basic idea of weight training. its not about the number on the dumbell, its about working your muscle hard enough to cause it to have to grow and tone up. if you are able to do 20 or more reps with the 7.5 lb dumbells, it is time to invest in heavier dumbells. if you are doing seight training with a weight that does not challenge your muscles and force them to work to failure, you are wasting your time and will see little or no result. feel free to email me if you have any questions on what i wrote.

If 10 reps is easy, use more.

It all depends on your level of fitness! Even 2 lbs can be too much if you aren't fit.

The best way to bulk up is, lower amount of reps with higher weights. Shoot for 8 reps and use the highest amount of weight it takes to do 8 of them with proper form. If they are working during the last 2-3 reps your muscles should feel burning right where your muscle is (not at your tendons).

I think the lighter the better toning. they say doing light weights is good for toning so do 5 instead of 7.5
