I don't recommend lifting weights (to build muscle) if you're pre-puberty. Your body type may change dramatically through your teenage years. For example, my brother was stocky and short until around 16, at which point he grew to over 6'5" and is now rather lanky. He was unable to build muscle until after this growth spurt.

It's always good to ask a trainer to help you find your limit with weights, but if you can't you need to determine your "One rep max". http://www.webefit.com/articles/article_...

That site does a good job of describing what I mean. You should lift 60-80% of your max if you plan on building muscle. Do three sets of 10-8-6 reps respectively. Feel free to tailor the workout to suit your needs, but that's a good basis.

ALWAYS USE PROPER FORM. Consult someone who knows how to do it right before attempting on your own.

Lastly, if you plan on building muscle you have to eat right, including an increase of protein in your diet (beans, nuts, meats).

Good luck little man!

growth in muscles maybe ... =P

thats bull-crap.
unless you are under the age of 8 years old and are lifting three times your weight, its not gonna stunt your growth.
plus, mix it with some cardio training and youve got the perfeeeeect sollution to easy weight loss.
(:

i play football for one of the best weightlifting programs in indiana.
we've won a highly prestigious weightlifting competition for the last 4 years after the school that hosts it won it for long time in arrow.
i know, lifting doesn't stunt your growth unless if your doing it when ur really young
