My parents think I have an eating disorder.?!

Question: I don't. I eat 3 meals a day, I eat snacks, I always get at least 1200 calories a day, and its usually more. I lift weights 4 times per week. They think I need 2500 calories per day, but I'm only 5'2 and I think that will cause me to gain weight. How do I tell them I'm not anorexic? I eat in front of them a lot and finish my dinner. What should I do?

As long as you're definately eating healthy. Not just skimpy meals, like a salad. But if youre eating cereal, and sandwiches, and a healthy dinner, they shouldnt be concerned. And as long as your not worried about your calorie intake, to a point where you stop at a certain amount of calories, then im not sure why they dont see that. You may just be a tiny thin person naturally, and they may be concerned about that. Try sitting down with them, maybe at dinner, and tell them that it is getting to you, that they keep assuming that. Tell them that its putting stress on you and it bothers you that they worry about something so foolish that isnt even true. If you can create a connection with them and really show them its bothering you, then they'll most likely come to an understanding with you. You can also strictly tell them what you eat during the day, and prove to them there is nothing to worry about. Your parents love you, but that is a frustrating thing to be accused of. Just stay healthy and active, and as long as you're doing that, youre body is going to respond and remain the weight that is good for you. Also, maybe a doctors appointment. Your doctor can talk with you, and then check if youre at a good weight, and then discuss with your parents that you are in fact healthy and doing all the right things. A professional opinion may give them more reassurance. Hope this helps. Stay healthy and no worries.

If its really serious and your tired of them nagging at you, go to the doctor and have him tell you your healthy, show them your results and tell them to back off.

tell them to leave you alone.

1200 calories a day is NOT enough if you're lifting. That is for a person who is on a pretty strict diet. Ask any trainer. You don't need 2500, but 1800-2000 wouldn't hurt! People who are of normal weight eat that many calories a day, and you're working out on top of it. Your parents worry because they have reason to, however...you don't need as many calories as they're recommending.

go to a dosctor with them, get a full check-up and if everything seems okay, then they have nothing to worry about right?!?!

how old are u, and how many pounds are u?

Just ignore them only u know what U need.

Keep working out your body will tell you if you have had enough to eat. You will go hypoglycemic if not enough food.

2,500 calories a day sounds a little high.

What?

I don't think a female needs 2500 calories per day what so ever.

My advice to you is go and see your doctor - he might help refer you to somebody who can customise a good diet for you, a diet of food that you eat (which is healthy) and food that you're willing to incorporate - a nutritionist.

I would talk to a nutrionist about what the daily calorie requirement is for someone your height/age/sex and get info on what you should be eating. Then you can show your parents that you are doing the right things. 2500 cal a day is too much. I think they may be disillusioned about what a healthy weight is considering so many people today are overweight. Good luck.

Are you fit? because I am a water polo player so i am pretty fit, what i would say you need to do is a lot of chest work (sit ups, bench press). if you cant seem to gain weight you probably have fast metabolism (i have ti too) I eat more than most people I know and im 140 lbs and 5'9. How old are you? im not trying to encourage early weight lifting tho that can mess you up, but if you want to beef up a bit, i suggest sit ups and benchpress, and curls and then eat protein within 15 min after that. that way you dont have to stuff yourself and youll look bigger because of being more buff. Otherwise, tell your parents you want to got o the doctor and prove to them your health. At 5'2 you SHOULD NOT be all that big, i was tiny when i was that tall. I used to get made fun of for my height actually ( i grew you will too). just keep your confidence up and dont let teh fact your parents think u have a disorder force you to OVER eat or anything
