Do sit-ups just tone muscle or do they actually burn stomach fat as well?!

Question: Thanks

Answers: Thanks

They do not burn fat. Cardio is what burns fat. Your stomach muscles cannot burn fat. You can tone abs. Everyone has abs, but they cannot be seen under the fat if you dont do cardio to burn the fat. Keep in mind there is no such thing as target zones. When you do cardio, you lose fat all over. Not just in the stomach.

As a woman you dont want to go below 16-17% body fat. It's very unhealthy. Men can have a much lower body fat weight than women without any health consequences.

Tone

well they tone but to burn fat you have to do cardio as well

tone muscle, to burn fat your best bet is aerobic excercise like running, swimming, cycling etc

They tone muscle-- which in return burns the fat around it the longer it's maintained. Ultimately though, if you want really firm abs you're going to have to get that toned and change your diet to get your fat down to 8-10%.

From what people have told me in the past, crunches and sit ups mostly just strengthen your ab muscles, not burn fat. I've always been told that it "doesn't matter if your abs are hard as rocks if you can't see them through the layer of fat on top."

Hope this helps :)

They burn NO fat. Just tone muscle. All you'll get from situps is a set of six pack abs that no one can see...

a6w is best way to tone up sixpach and joggin is best way to burn fat around it so u can actually see six pack

Diet and exercise burn fat. If you are not sweating you are probably not exercising. Do sit ups make you sweat?

mostly tone,,,,just be careful how you do them,..my husband just hurt his back and it ruined out vacation after the holidays,,he is now seeing a chiropacter...I think to get rid of fat ,,watch what you eat and burn calories and sit up will help some....GOOD LUCK!

tone muscles

They definitely build muscle tone, that is common knowledge.

As for burning stomach fat... kind of, a little bit, indirectly. Here's how... When you have more muscle in your body, your body burns more calories (even when you're resting). If you do so many situps that your stomach muscles grow, then your body will burn a few extra calories each day bc your muscles are a bit bigger. Provided that you do not consume more calories than before, that theoretically would result in your body losing a little fat. The problem is that your body will lose the fat evenly throughout your whole body... your body will not lose fat from only your stomach.

when you tone a muscle you burn the fat

all fat stored in the body is stored calories (unused food and drink) expending more calories than you consume will tap into that storage. sit-ups will burn calories, but probably not enough to see a difference in fat loss. More intense exercise will do that. And fat comes off where ever your genetics determine. There is no such thing as "spot training." sit-ups simply strenghen the abdominals.

sit ups, especially if done correctly, will tighten the flab of your tummy. "Buring stomach fat" is something that's not going to happen..there' no way to burn fat. You loose fat as your body takes in less calories that it uses. Sad but true...always has been the story, always will. That being said...you can go a long way inimproving your overall look with "woking out" .. this can be a basic walking program coupled with some floor excercises ...anything that you do in this reguard...will result in a win win!! If you are cutting back on calories..the exercise will help you too feel good about yourself...which in turn will help you with the food thing! good luck.....?

Sit ups, like everyone else has said, will just tone your abdominal muscles.

As for burning stomach fat. unfortunately it is impossible to isolate areas to burn fat in. you either burn fat from the whole body or non at all. And yes, cardio is the best way to do that. Whether it be running, biking, or whatever you enjoy doing. Anything that basically gets your heart rate up will help burn fat

just tone. you have to do cardio to burn fat.
