The fastest way is to starve yourself.

But perhaps the better question is: what's the safest way that will help me keep it off?

The answer to that question is long and I'm sure you already know most of the answer already.

For starters, stop eating all carbs (bread, potatoes, pasta, cake, cookies, rice, etc.) and fried stuff. Stop drinking sweet soft drinks and juices - only drink water. Coffee is OK too but don't add sugar. Milk is OK.

Eat lots of vegetables and as much raw stuff as you can (salads, fruits). Eat lots of protein (fish, meat, chicken). Eat as much of this stuff so that you don't feel hungry. Do NOT pour sauce all over your food.

Don't kid yourself. Don't buy a yogurt loaded with added sugar and then tell yourself "well it's yogurt so it's OK." Avoid sugar no matter what food company tries to tell you it is healthy. This means all those "healthy" granola bars and sugar filled breakfast cereals.

Go for a walk ever day and once you start to feel fitter, try get to a gym and lift some weights. Don't run. You'll mess your knees up for sure.

Quick weight-loss diets will make you fat for life. Ask any obese person how many sure-fired weight loss programs they've tried. These things mess up your metabolism and just make it easier and easier for you to put on weight when you are done torturing yourself.
