I get this totally had the same prob when i was your age it's really tough but stick with it and hopefully your family will start to help! You need to be careful you get your proper nutrition so here are some tips :)

Portion size - check your meals are not oversized, you can
buy plates that have compartments to help get
quantities right (feels a bit like you're eating off
baby plates at first but you soon learn the right
size and can do it without!!)

- also don't under eat or your body thinks it's
being starved and hangs on to all the food and
turns it into fat, it also makes it easy to fall in to
bad snacking
Routine - try and get in the habit of eating at set meal times
with a small snack mid morning and one mid
afternoon. Don't eat late in the eve as your body
needs time to digest before sleep. (I never eat after
10 pm)

Carbohydrates - you need these in every meal along with a portion of protien to make you feel full up and stops your blood sugar crashing so you don't snack unnecessarily

Vegetables - if you increase you fruit and veg intake to replace the junk not only will you feel better but it is proven to increase weight loss

Snacks - Just because your on a diet don't make it deprivation!! I mostly snack on fruit (bananas are great the're tasty and energy boosting) but every few days i allow my self something 'sinful' in a reasonable quanitiy ( a muffin, a slice of cake or a choccie bar), and this tip came from Martina Navratilova the wimbledon tennis champion who's till winning tournaments in her 50's! Food is good for the soul not just the body it's about quality not quantity and not indulging all day every day.

Prepare your snacks at home and take them out with you so if you get peckish your not reaching for the candy machine as the easiest option!

Find and exercise that doesn't bore you witless and is fun - i do belly dancing! I loathe gyms and get bored with aerobics.

Hope this helps - sorry if it's a bit like an essay!!!

Hugs
x Katie

egg whites, wheat bread, quaker oatmeal, cottage cheese(fat free) with pineapple, chicken breast, steamed veggies, salads with efa fat free dressing (easy on the dressing, has lots of sodium) low sodium tuna, bison, lean cuts of beef, flaxseed waffles, wild rice, dont put sauces on stuff thats another calorie/sodium adder... try drinking water instead of juice soda or milk and if you want get those crystal light on the go packets, for flavor.. very lo cal and not too bad for ya
make sure to keep a log, track your calories, carbs, fat and sodium intake and compare them with dv% recommendations and adjust for your size and weight

Get carrots, baby ones, get a plastic cup, fill it up with carrots, get a bottle of water, and go and watch tv and snack on those, carrots are actually pretty good when you get used to em and you need water for weight loss

Well, firstly, I'd advise that you go out and buy some fresh fruit and veg... it's not that expensive and when you do feel like snacking, it's not as bad as munching on chocolate or crisps.

Also, the most important thing to have in your new healthy diet is water. It fills you up and cleans your system, therefore if you always have a bottle of water with you, you can focus on that rather than the cake in the fridge.

You also need things that will keep you fuller for longer, but in moderation. (These are carbohydrates such as pasta and nuts...) Plus, only eat when you are hungry. You should never stuff yourself full, make sure you have room for one more mouthful but never actually eat it.

I'd like to help more... but I can't think of anything else at the moment >.<
Hope that did help in some way. Good luck with your new healthy lifestyle.

I encourage you to look at it as a lifestyle change versus a diet. A diet implies a food regimen designed to promote weight loss in a person and are usually not sustainable. I think what you are looking for is a true healthy lifestyle change.

The main reason why we are so unhealthy in the US (and increasingly the world over) is the massive growth of industry and technology which has led to an abundance of cheap, high-calorie meals, unhealthy sugary snacks, and a steep decrease in physical activity. In other words, the avg American engorges themselves with greasy, high-fat, low-nutrient, chemical-laced, mass-produced foods. This causes negative changes in your body, plays havic with blood sugar levels and causes you to crave foods even though you are taking in more than enough calories. The problem is the nutritional value of that food is nil, and it is wrecking havic on your blood sugar and insulin levels.

By changing the composition and mix of food you eat, you can greatly improve your overall health. Choosing the right foods means making a concerted effort to shop for and eat a wide array of:

Organically grown fruits and vegetables
Healthy dairy products like yogurt, cheese, and butter
Healthy red meats like organic grass-fed beef, lamb, venison, and bison
Cold-water fish caught in the wild
Pastured or free-range chicken
Whole grains like quinoa, amaranth, buckwheat, millet, and brown rice
Nuts and seeds

Eat from the list above, snacking on fruits, vegetables and unsalted nuts. If you eat from the list above, your desire to snack will be greatly reduced. If you still find yourself getting the munchies, try drinking a glass of water. Often times, feeling hungry is really your body telling you it is thirsty.

do you really need to be on a diet? if you do consider seeing a dietician they can help you come up with a healthy plan. here are some yummy but nutritous snack:
fruit
vegetables
celery and pb
banana and pb
fruit and non fat cottage cheese
rice cakes
low cal popcorn
tofu
