Congratulations, you're on the right track. You have identified a problem and what challenges you have to face to fix it.

Your environment won't make it easy. You'll really have to find the motivation from within. Enlist the help of trusted friends, too. Just because you don't have that motivation doesn't mean you can or should give up on the idea.

Don't ever feel like you have to be skinny. Your goal should be to be healthy. Do you have any friends who exercise? Get them to help you, or at least to keep you on track and give you that nudge when you don't feel like doing anything.

The fast food problem is going to be tough. If that's a family norm, it'll take a lot of willpower on your part to break free from that. Fast food is extremely addictive, physically and mentally. If your family isn't with you on this, it will just make it that much harder. But if you are serious about this, your family will probably support you, and you may even motivate them into healthier habits themselves.

It will probably have to start with a real heart to heart conversation with your parents. Something like: "I am too heavy right now and I'm concerned about my health. I want to make it a priority to get healthier over the next year or two. I'll try my hardest to take responsibility for being more active, but I need your help with what I eat. I want to cut down on the fast food and eat a more balanced diet. I appreciate the food you provide for me, but for the sake of my health, may I be more involved with choosing what kind of food I eat?" Or something along those lines. I don't know what kind of relationship you have with your folks, but if that sounds overly cheesy, you can customize it to your style. That's just giving you an idea of where to start.

Before you really do anything, you should visit your family doctor. I'm assuming you're not 6'8", so you are carrying extra weight. Your doctor should be happy to give you guidance on daily food intake, portion sizes, and exercise goals. Make sure to get a full checkup to make sure you don't have any health problems. That could change the way you eat or exercise.

It's a great time to take responsibility for this while you are still in high school. It can be a good source of positive peer pressure. Best of luck to you!

1-when you all go out to eat get a salad.
2- Start going on a walk.
3-Go to a doctor and make sure you don't have any health problems.
4-get motivated. For example get a cute dress that's a size or 2 smaller then you wear. Just keep thinking how sexy ur going to look in it.
5-when you get hungry chew low calorie gum
6-eat fresh fruit.
Good luck!

Get active. It does not have to be running and stair stepping. Walk all over the mall to different stores on different levels. Going swimming and do other things you enjoy. Try to stay out of the house.

Control your cravings. when you want to pig out, choose something that is light and healthy, like a salad. Exercise frequently, or better yet, hire a personal trainer. please dont fall for any stupid diet trend; those are not good for you. I've also heard that if you have really small meals more frequently, it increases your metabolism speed which burns food into energy as opposed to fat!
Good luck!

I just did 40 curl ups in the mornin and in the evenin before i went to bed and instead of snacking on chips, I ate an apple or grapes or something. I lost like 20 pounds.

Would your family be willing to buy you certain food? You need to start with drinking lots of water. No soda, juices, energy drinks. You need to eat lots of veggies and fruits that you like so it won't be so hard. White meat chicken, salads, and portion control is important. Only put a little on your plate. Drink water before you eat so that way you won't eat as much . Exercise of course. Even if it's walking, start slow, day by day you will see an improvement, I promise! Give yourself time. Don't expect to drop 10 pounds in two days and then get upset and give up! You can do this. If you need a friend, e-mail me at anytime! I wish you the best.

I will list several options for meals / snacks. The key is to eat 5 times a day, but in smaller portions.

Breakfast:

-1 egg white and 1 piece of whole wheat toast
-1 package of quaker oatmeal
-fat-free cottage cheese and a small piece of fruit like cantaloupe or pinapple
-half a grapefruit and 1 piece of whole wheat toast
-1 small container of low-fat yogurt (vanilla is best)
-1 small serving of fruit, like a small apple or 6 strawberries

Lunch:

-1 chicken breast and half a cup of a steamed vegetable like brocoli
-a very lean beef, bison is the leanest beef
-1 cup of whole wheat pasta and a vegetable
-1 fish fillet and half a cup of whole wheat pasta
-a turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread (Do NOT eat sandwich meat, eat broiled turkey, like from a breast)
-2 cups of mixed greens, half a chicken breast cut up,and 2 T. of a lowfat salad dressing

Dinner:

-a small salad and 1 chicken breast
-1 piece of whole wheat bread and a small turkey breast
-a fish fillet and a servine of vegetables
-1 chicken breast and a low-fat yogurt
-baked or grilled fish

Snacks:

-low-fat yogurt
-a serving of fruit
-a serving of vegetables
-1 slice of whole wheat toast
-a SMALL salad, like 3/4 a cup
-8 whole wheat crackers

If you are not getting filled up, drink a glass of water before each meal. You can also drink half a cup of skim milk.

Stay away from salt!

Stick to whole-wheat and low-fat.

Do NOT drink any soda! Not even diet.

EXCERSIZE:

-run at least 2 miles everyday, if this is to much for you, do 1 mile, take a break, do another mile
-do 20 crunches a day
-do 20 situps a day
-while watching TV, jog in place
-go on the treadmill
-use any workout equipment available to you

Good Luck!

chicken breast, steamed veggies like asparagus
very lean cuts of beef, or bison if that is availabe. bison is one of the leanest meats (leaner than fish)
apples, grapefruit
watch your salt intake... less than 2200 mg or you will be retaining tons of water...don't eat any processed foods or canned stuff... no lunch meat etc.. sodium content is through the roof.
Really if you stick to "whole foods" plus some exercise 3-4 days a week to create a calorie deficit, you may be able to achieve your goal. it won't be easy but stick to it, keep a journal of everything you eat and exersize and stick with it!

OR Turkey sandwich with whole wheat bread and low fat cheese and mustard and fat free yogurt. Dinner: Lean turkey fillet or skinless chicken breast grilled or baked with veggies OR baked or grilled fish or shrimp and veggies. Snacks: fruit, veggies, or a glass of milk.

Breakfast: grapefruit, oatmeal, yogurt, egg whites

Lunch: wheat bread, wraps, turkey, chicken breast, mustard (zero cals!), veggies, fruit

Dinner: turkey, chicken, fish (dont fry anything), steamed veggies, salad, fat free salad dressing, brown rice

Snacks: apple, orange, yogurt, nuts, dried fruit

Drinks: black coffee, skim milk, fresh squeezed fruit juice, water, crystal lite, unsweetened iced tea, green tea

Cardio: jump rope 10 min, jog around house outside 10 laps, ride bike up a hill for 10 min

If you want to lose weight try going something like indoor soccer, volleyball or a sport like that. One thing that is good in the summer is ridin your bike. it worked for me lost 10 pounds in like a week and a half. Try researching on the internet, lots of people were going thourgh the same thing and have some ideas. Hope this helped!

What worked for me when I was 15 was joining a club at school that was focused on exercise. I started playing intramural sports and I made friends and got motivated at the same time. Its not like going to the gym because you're working for a common goal. It's not like regular exercising.
Your parents' responsibility is to take care of you at this age. Tell them that you really want to be dedicated to losing weight. In a perfect world, they'll support you. If not, it'll make them think about their parenting skills.
Search around online for a support group for overweight teens. You'll meet other young women like yourself who are in the same situations. Hopefully you'll be able to motivate each other.
I wish you all the best :)

You could give your family of healthy things to eat. Like O.J and bagels or somthing in the morning. A sandwich in the afternoon ( not mcdonalds or BK) and salad (always) meat, and what ever else healthy you want. You could do pushups and situps in the morning, when you come back from school, or before you go to bed. Leave notes around the house to remind you of your healthy diet, then you will get motivated. Get your friends into it too, they could help you and you could help them and you'll get even MORE motivated. Well, good luck

think of exercise as a fun way to meet someone who could be the love of ur life :D

Well im 14 and weught 175... I used to weigh 210... just go walkin every day... I ddid... me and my dog walked a mile... If u also drink alot of sodas... swith to diet... I drank sodas a freaken lot... and I switched to diet and didnt change my drinking habbit and still lost 10 lbs.... Also I always used to eat late at night... after my breakfast and dinner I had MULTI-VITAMINS and they help... also eat breakfast because all of your weight comes from not eating cuzz ur body doesnt know when it will eat again so it eats up all the acids and turns into fat and eating breakfast breaks all of the acid turning food in ur stomach away... just keep eating(Healthy stuff)... well I hoped I helped

Read about Atkins here: http://www.atkins.com/articles/nutrition...
Cut carbs way back and drink a good amount of clear water. Don't lower your caloric intake unless you can do a lot of exercise since lowering calories will also lower metabolism and exercising will raise it. So, in the beginning since it is pretty hard for someone as heavy as your are right now, exercising is a little hard to do for very long????? Anyway, get your body burning fat, just by changing the way you are eating. READ READ READ and understand. Once you read and understand this program you wll be able to do this (work with your mom too! and ask her to read) and you will be surprised to see how well and how easy this will be. Good luck to you!

You do not have to eat everything your family does, eat less starchy food and more fruits and vegetables. Go for a walk daily. And weigh yourself daily, as soon as you see some weight come off you will get more motivated.

Hey I'm your age and trying to lose weight too. I actually just joined Weight Watchers online today. If your parents will give you the money to do that, I'd reccomend it. My problem is I hate healthy food, it just grosses me out. Have your rents buy you food just for you (it doesn't have to be super healthy, just don't over load on the junk) and if they won't spend money on just you and buy seperate for the rest of the family maybe get a job and buy your own food. Plus you won't be home to eat as often. Make sure to get at least a few servings of dairy and protein a day that'll help lose weight.

Good luck because I know how annoying it is being an overweight teenager and I'm going through the struggle of losing weight too.

I have to say, you need to make yourself motivated. At the rate you are going by the time you reach adulthood it will be too late. You can start with small stuff like taking a walk listening to your music and then try sit ups. What I do now is plug in my i-pod and just dance in my room. This really works up a sweat!! You need to motivate yourself that's all it comes down to.

As far as the food situation, I had started a job and I was working till 730 at night and I would be too tired to cook. I would eat fast food every night and the weight came on. You need to tell your parents you want to eat better. I have tons of awesome and easy recipes that you can make with ordinary things. Give them a list and go to the grocery store. Eating spicy foods seems to aid in weight loss (weird to me) and you need to eat veggies and fruits. I eat weight watchers meals sometimes and this helps. Portion control is huge too I found that I ate too fast and then started eating slower and ate less. Little tricks you need to find that will work for you.

for skateboarding, get a longboard to start (they're ment for cruising) and start as soon as you can it's fun

after school do like 30 pushups and 30 situps, or crunches and like 15 squat thrusts, do your excersises with a friend so you're more motivated.
do not go on a diet, sure you loose weight but 80% of the time you just put it all back on right after, not to mention the nutrition deficiences you'll take on, you're best off getting a plan of healthy homemade foods that give you all the calories and vitamins you need per day
get a paper rout too, and walk to the houses you deliver to each day, not to mention it will help with getting the money to prepare your own food and buy a longboard/skateboard!

Order the salads, I know its tough but if you want it enough you will change your habits. Start walking. If you have a dog then take it out and also if you have an mp3 player walk to that. Force yourself to workout. Look up some moves online like pilates or get some dvds. You have to be your own drill instructor and tell your fat butt to get up and do something. The longer you wait the more time you waste. Two weeks from now you could be two pounds lighter instead of two pounds heavier. You control your destiny so which way are you going to walk? Are you going to walk up on the scale or turn around your life and habits and walk down. Once you get into the habit of being a healthy person it becomes a lifestyle. Dont think of it as a diet just a healthier way of life. Just think in a few months you could be twenty pounds lighter. Be the example for your family and maybe they will be insipired by you and stop their awful health habits and even start exercising with you. You can do it, it's possible you just have to be ready and want to change. I remember the day I made the decision to be healthy. I was 18 and weighed 195...I told myself enough is enough I am too young to be doing this to myself and being unhappy. When am I going to respect myself and say enough is enough? So I started walking 3 miles a day. I ate lots of salads, drank water only, and made healthy choices every chance I got. I dont regret doing that. Now I am 23 and I weigh 135 and went from size 16 to a 2. Its possible you just have to want it bad enough.

Well, you just said it - you eat bad food and you are not motivated to exercise so you really don't want to lose the weight, do you? If you did, you WOULD exercise and you WOULD eat better. If your parents love you, they will help by stocking healthy foods in the home. If nothing else, try to control your portions. If you normally get a double cheeseburger, get a single and leave off the fries. Try a diet drink, for example. Do you keep any fresh fruit in the fridge? How about some carrots? Go take a walk - it's great exercise for body and mind. Good luck - You can do it!

exercise for 30 minutes, eat smaller portions during the day, make sure you eat breakfast, Don't set unrealistic goals. Set small goal.....first goal is to lose 5 pounds, next goal is to lose another 5.....I did this and it helped me from getting discouraged. I lost 60 pounds in a year and feel great!

I was a weight loss coach. In your case, committing to weight loss is very important. Exercise will become an interest once you finish your third trimester of weight loss. Portion control is by far the most important. Don't cut out certain food completely because you might end up feeling deprived and resort to binge. Keep in mind no matter if you are eating at home or out, portion and decline. You want to lose weight for life because yo yo diet might cause your weight to stall. Find out what suits you the most in terms of weight loss. Key is to eat according to health guide usa or canada.(serving size) and modify the portions to your need.....3 protein, 2 starch, 4vegetable, 2 fat, 3 fruit, 1 dairy for starter. Sleep well because lack of sleep causes appetite increase.Check your thyroid and hopefully you'll succeed. The people I helped lost from as much as 100+ to as little as 10 pounds depend on the situation. E-mail on my profile if you want further assitance.

The menu already suggested are good.lean meats cut back on carbs by chosen whole wheat.Get some books such as Atkins which is approved for adults by ADA-check to see if it is approved for teenagers.also you can get literature from the store with testimonies from varies people on how they lost weight e-diet.com is a good start. The problem also is your family eating habits.you will need to stay away from them when they eat if possible try to eat before they order. also Weight watchers has menu for fast food restaurants.Explain to your family how you fill and hope they will help and maybe get on a plan with you.If they can at least exercise with you.If they can just try to keep the food away from you that would be helpful.start charting your weight your goals weight each week try to make a goal of 2 pounds.challenge yourself next week go for 3 a week. You have a year to lose you could lose over 100 pounds if you want. But i tell you what if you continue to gain weight if will slow you down ruin your health and self image.Even tho i know you are beautiful at your weight you will fill better at a smaller weight if you want to be smaller and start skateboarding,in fact i think that is goal enough.
