you aren't doing anything wrong! You are just out of shape!!

1st of all pace yourself... just jog.. you don't need to go fast. If you go fast you are going to get tired more easily and then you are going to stop running.

For a while you just need to jog for a while.. then walk.. then jog. Eventually you will get in better shape and be able to run fo longer distance w/o being out of breathe!!

Good luck!!

You don't want to be out of breath. When you push yourself too hard you start burning your bodies glucose and are not burning fat. Whether it's a face paced walk or slow jog, stay at a rate you can maintain for a period of time while at an elevated breathing level but not out of breath. This is when you're execersing arerobically and getting the greatest effect as far as burning fat goes.

you should push your body, but not to the point that you are hurting yourself. it all depends on your physical condition.
try going for a short, slow paced jog. when your stamina builds up, you can go for a longer distance.

Good for you! The main thing is that you got yourself out there and started a fitness program. So, how old are you? What's your history of fitness? How much do you weigh? Male? Female? Whatever your answers, my answer may vary!

I'm assuming you're not in top shape. It's okay, and actually easier on your body to start out by walking for several weeks before you even break into a jog. Walking is not as hard on your knees and joints as jogging. If you feel out of breath, you are definitely going too fast. And if you're jogging as slowly as you can, and you get out of breath, WALK. There is nothing bad about walking!

I strongly suggest that if you're serious about this, go out to a sporting goods store and buy yourself a heart rate monitor. You will wear a strap around your chest and a watch (the receiver) which will tell you what your heart rate is. You'll want to be working out at about 60-70% of your max heart rate which is 240 minus your age. So if you're 20, your workout heartrate should be between 132-154 beats per minute.

Just start out WALKING and then maybe in 2 days you will be fast walking then you can do a slow jog then a regular jog and sooner than you know it, you'll be at running!

You're doing good! You should time yourself, so you have some structure. This way you can see if you are gaining from the exersize.
Start by walking for a few minutes, just to limber up. Then jog for 2 minutes (assuming you are out of shape) and walk until your breath is back to normal. Then jog for another 2 minutes and walk again. Do so for about a half hour each day or every other day of the week.
Then the following week you bump up the running part by 15 or 30 seconds, etc, etc.
