Most important things - especially at your age are to stay motivated without getting obsessed - and to be patient and reasonable with your expectations.

Over-training and over-dieting will cause a boomerang effect, both physically and psychologically - and the longer-term result will be getting fatter.

Keep your work-outs FUN. Keep them in activities that you ENJOY, and select ones that you ENJOY. Don't beat yourself physically or emotionally, and be kind to your body and your mind - patient with it - as you continue to build your new lifestyle.

See it as a permanent way-of-life for yourself. Imagine yourself at 40, doing the active things and being ripped because you always eat good, fresh food and always so enjoy your activities.

If you keep this long-term focus, and keep it fun, and make sure you don't over-do in the near term, the "how long it takes" will be done before you know it and you'll be looking back from a ripped-up 20 year old perspective.

It's not short-term monumental effort, but tiny efforts every single day - like building a house out of tooth-picks - or building a great body, one cell at a time.

Get your dad to get you a copy of Hatfield's "Bodybuilding a Scientific Approach". It'll maybe be a tad over your head now, but as you use it you'll get the added benefit of acing those future biology tests.

dedicated workouts will get you in shape i guess...

OK, I'd expect this question to be from a girl! That's weird. You are JUST 12 well you TURNED 12 come on! When you go to puberty you will shape up a little, just stop worrying puh-lease and how tall are you I weigh the same and I'm 5'6 so how tall r u

Your time will show when you're about 13+, if you don't feel in the group then don't try to be in the skinny kids group, you're not going to have a six-pack until you start growing, work-out insanely, and go through puberty. No matter what, don't try to kill yourself to be in the group. I'm 13 and I don't have a six-pack, it's under my baby fat, I don't look fat, but I can still go to pool parties and not look fat. Also I'm 5'3", 135 lbs.

LIFTING AT YOUR AGE CAN MAKE YOU SHORTER!!! you need to do more cardio, light wieghts are ok, but you walking a dangerous line.

ur only 13 dont worry about it when it comes to 15 or 16 then ask this question .. but you should try joggin everyday about 2 miles and eat healthy do some sit up and crunches and bench press. do sit up and crunches like 100 each everyday this should help

Your dad is really helping you, it is a good thing it is winter and you have till summer to shape up. I think you will be in shape if you keep on working out.
