Most people don't know about body fat percentage, they only know about weight and BMI. Some of them even think BMI is a measure of your body fat percentage.

I used to focus on weight, but a few years ago I learnt about body fat percentage and went for a body composition test. I'm 5ft2 and at the time I was 130lb with around 30% body fat. Normally, I would have tried to lose 10lb-20lb because that would seem like a more 'ideal' weight. But instead, I started a high protein diet and worked out with weights 3 times a week. I'm now only 5lb lighter at 125lb, but my body fat percentage is down to 24%. So I didn't need to lose a lot of weight, I just needed to lose body fat and gain muscle. I feel fitter and leaner and I even dropped a dress size.

It can be for many reasons. I am in the process of losing weight. I have lost about 30 pounds so far. I am doing it because i wanna look good in clothes, feel confident about myself, rid of potenial disease, not have high blood pressure, have more energy, and get sick rarely. It's more then about looks. We have cancer in my famiyl and I am not planning on getting it because of my poor health desicions.

ITA, I am also technically overweight, but my blood pressure and heart rate are "athletic" (LOL), and my cholesterol and hdl/ldl ratios are better than the national average. I do all the right things, play volleyball, walk, am reasonably active----eat healthy 85% of the time (fresh veggies, not boxed or preserved anything)....yet the focus is still what I weigh.

Owell. I am who I am.

Because it affects your look.

the average person is not very intelligent and get most of there information from the televised media. you never hear anyone on TV talk about body fat even so so called "experts" that they have on some of the major talk shows.

when I was in teen in the 80's it was all about the body fat %. today it's all about the useless BMI.
