Is going walking with bricks in your back-pack a good workout?!

Question: Hello everyone. I' male and I want to broaden my shoulders, and bulk up a bit if I can. Is sticking a few bricks in a back-pack/ruck-sack and walking, a good work out? How long should I do it for? Any advice?

It is excellent. If you like that, also consider doing farmer's carries. Tie weight plates together and just walk around your back hard with weights in both hands...full body workout, not too mention it strengthens your grip like mad.

If you really feel adventurous, do lunges and slow squats every so often.

Note: The other poster makes a good point. DO NOT SLOUCH. As you are walking be sure to use correct posture.

sounds like it would be bad for your back

NO.......Just start doing some weight training

i wouldn`t think so. sounds like you`ll hurt your back doing that, not to mention what people will think when they see you carrying a pile of bricks on your shoulders.

NOOO!!! it's terrible for your back, you may hurt it badly. You'd better go to the gym and pump some irons.

You're wanting to add weight to your walking workout is a fine idea but that's not the way to do it and it won't broaden your shoulders or bulk you up in the way you wish. You can add weights to all of your work outs by using ankle/leg and wrist/arm weights evenly. You can also continue to wear them doing regular weight lifting for bulking up in general and shoulders. Swimming is also great for your shoulders, upper body, arms and legs because of the resistance of the water.
