How to start running...?!


Question: I know the question sounds ridiculous, but I have never been able to run my entire life! When I was younger and fit I couldn't run, and now that I'm 50lbs overweight I want to learn to run even more. How do I start, and how to I build endurance?

Well first you start walking 40 - 45 minutes everyday. And once you're comfortable with that, start jogging without stopping for about 10 - 20 minutes.

try running up and down the stairs

I started where I would walk for about 5 mins. Then run for however long I could run for. Then walk for 5 mins. Then run for however long I could take running. Then continue this until I could walk less and run more.

Always stretch (before and after),
Drink water (keep yourself hydrated),
Pace yourself (don't over do it),
Get proper running shoes (take a look at New Balance shoes)

Check out Runner's World. They have programs for beginners. Basically you need to start slowly and build up slowly so you don't hurt yourself. Use any search engine and look for "beginning runner" or "how to start running." Good luck!
