Question about weight lifting?!

Question: I've been weight lifting for about 1 and a half months now and have moved up from doing only 10 lbs dumbell curls to about 20 lbs. I'm pretty sure i've outgrown 20's now, as i am barely getting a burn from doing almost 21 reps. The problem is, when i try to go to a heavier weight (25's usually) my wrist literally gives out. I find myself unable to lift the weight as too much stress is put on my wrist and forearms. I've tried lifting straps but they don't seem to help much. Is there anyway I could continue to lift progressively heavier weights without getting this problem? Or are there any other exercises/equipment that could give me the burn I need?

Your biceps are stronger than your wrist and forearms. You need to build your forearms and wrists. Your wrists aren't ready for the heavier weights.

I suggest the wrist curl..try 8-10 lb dumbells in which you put your forearms on your legs while sitting on a bench. Flex each dumbell in each hand from your wrist up and down with your palms facing down and later with your palms facing up. Do 15 reps of each. It will help strengthen your wrists. Also, do hammer curls with dumbbells of 20-25 lbs. This will strengthen your grip and forearms.

Once you your wrists are stronger. Try doing curls with 25 lbs weights. Good luck.

sounds like you might have a problem with your lifting form
are you keeping your wrist aligned with your forearm?
when you're doing arm curls you shouldn't bend your wrist at all

Great post! I totally understand how you feel. I'm also trying to lose weight and I found this great product which is working for me (it's all 100% natural). You can check the website at
