Calorie usage depends on activity levels, the more active, the more calories are used. It takes 1.5 calories a minute to keep the body operating smoothly, without additional activity. When the activity level increases the rate of calorie usage goes up.

Most of us consume between 1500-2500 calories a day, I have a lower metabolic rate so I consume fewer calories around 1500 to maintain my weight, if i go over i will gain, if you have a higher metaboic rate you may want to strive for 2500, but watch high cholesterol foods as it is not healthy to have too much, or junk food try to consume your calories from fruits, veggies, lean meats, etc.. i hope this helps..
