Question about starvation mode?!

Question: so i've heard people say that if you were to go on a "diet" and eat 800 cals a day you would just gain weight because you'll body will store the food. well, doesn't your body burn 1000 cals just from doing normal every day things like walking sleeping, and breating, etc. so if you were to eat 800 cals wouldn't you burn the storage your body held plus more??
gar i don't understand this.

Yes and no. When you limit your body to a certain amount of carbs, your body does go into starvation mode. If you do this for long enough, your body is confused about the next time it will get fed. The first thing it burns up is lean muscle tissue. Fat is more complex in nature and takes more body energy to burn. So you may think you're losing weight, but muscle weighs more than fat. So you are losing weight according to the scale, but you will retain the fat. Every time you eat, your body will convert it to fat for storage. If you keep on this minimal diet for long enough, your body will eventually use up the fat. But your fat needs some fat naturally, as fat is the layer under the skin, the organs have a layer of fat around them to protect them from damage. Please, go talk to a nutritionist or someone you know who is informative in health and nutrition

800 calories is not a diet, it is a system shock that tells your body there will be no more food coming in, so your body starts killing unnecessary systems (which is why menarche will frequently stop in women with eating disorders). Likewise, how many calories you burn depends on what you are doing- believe it or not, science has proven you burn more calories sleeping than watching television! And with less fuel coming in, it will be harder and harder to motivate yourself to do anything, even things you like, because you will have no energy (again, teh body trying to conserve).

800 calories isn't enough to get you by- stick with 1500-1800 and sensible amounts of exercise to lose the weight.

You could look it up on google or something. But it basically means that your body is in starvation mode..that when you do start eating regular meals, your body will store all the food as fat because you have been depriving yourself of nourishment. Your body thinks its starving so it clings onto food and stores it in fat reserves.

your body needs 1200 calories to do everyday things, so when you eat under that amount your body gets worried that it's not getting enough energy so it stores every bit of fat it can.
