What happens when you burn off more calories than you have consumed?!

Question: Yeseterday for breakfast i had a small bowl of rice krispies with a handfull of cornflakes. semi skimmed milk 125ml

and a small braeburn apple mid morning with a bottle of mineral water.

i had no lunch. and did 3 walks that equalled 500-600 calories burned. now as well as that do i also burn calories anyway? i've heard of something called bmr? please explain what mine would be !???
I then had a tin of heinz spaghetti bolognese for dinner, with half a small pear and a small bag of pick and mix (fizzy sweets) for desert.

any ideas for what im on in calories for the whole day? WHAT I WAS REALLY WONDERING IS because i burnt off all the calories id orignally consumed and MORE does that mean i go back to zero like at the start of the day, or do i even go into minus calories, as i burnt far more than i ate this morning. ?? PLEASE TRY AND ACTUALLY ANSWER MY QUESTIONS RATHER THAN GOING (SHOCK HORROR ) AT MY OBVIOUS WEIGHT PROBLEM . thank you .

i am 16yrs old , 6ft male, 98lbs .

BMI (Body Mass Index) is the closet thing I can think of in the moment that is even close to "bmr"(not sure what that is.) BMI basically takes into account your height and weight. then it tells you a "healthy average weight range" for someone "like you (140-184lbs source below)"

When you burn off more calories than you take in in a day that is called a negative calorie diet, often used for losing weight. So to answer your question, you don't stop at zero... you do "go into minus calories" for that day. To make up for it, your body will either burn fat or muscle.

Whether your body burns fat or muscle depends on how regularly you are eating and if there is any fat left.

That being said, if you are eating regularly and there is fat left to burn, you will burn fat. Otherwise your body will be burning muscle.

The body is like a bank account, making regular deposits (eating) causes an account (body) to grow, making too many withdraws (over taxing/exercising the body) can cause to account holder to go broke.

Being comfortable with ones' self and eating healthy is of benefit to everyone.

I hope that was helpful, if it's alright I'll keep your situation in my prayers for a while. If you prefer I not, then message me or send me an email.

Most will probably say that with that scenario (burning more than you consume) you will lose weight. Problem is, your body might also slow it's metabolic rate down. I would suggest you put some meat on your bones before you go out on a windy day and get blown into a tree.

You're deathly skinny. Eat more food.

You do not start the calorie counting over until the next day. You get lots of exercise ,so that is why you are burning your calories off so quickly. You might try incorporating some more carbs in your diet . You don't seem to be eating enough food for the day. It's okay to eat several small meals, just try to get all the food groups in there. Concentrate on doing that. It might be a good idea to see a Dr. & he could give you a nice healthy diet to follow.

OK. If you burn more calories than you consume then you lose weight. You go into minus calories for the day. I'm not really sure about the amount of calories you consumed for the whole day. You can usually find that on the nutrition labels if they're available to you. Since you used the term ml I am assuming you are not in the U.S. I'm not sure if they print the nutrition information on labels everywhere.

I'm sure you know about the dangers of being so underweight. I hope you're able to get to a healthy weight.

BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) (kcal)

(Body Weight [lb] x 15) + (moderate activity [mins/day] x 3.5)

If you wish to lose 1 lb/week, your target = BMR - 500 kcal (2 lbs would be 100 kcal)

If you wish to gain 1 lb/week, your target = BMR + 500 kcal (2 lbs would be 100 kcal)

For instance, you weigh 89 lb and you perform 90 mins of moderate activity every day. BMR of this example = (89 x 15) + (90 x 3.5) = 1335 + 315 = 1650 kcal. So to stay the same weight your body needs 1650 cal a day. (the 90 is me assuming you're doing 3 30 min walks a day... adjust it to whatever you do). It's not recommended to eat less than 1200 a day... I'm sure you've heard of the whole starvation mode thing.

You don't go into minus calories... you just start burning fat and then muscle (your body starts to break down muscle if you eat less than 1200 cal a day or if you try to loose more than 2 lbs a week.

Stay safe.
