Water retention is ruining my life...the more I exercise the more fluid I seem t!

Question: For an hour or so going on my treadmill (40 mniutes) the fluid retention seems acceptable but after a few hours my legs seem stiff and swollen as do my fingers and stomach. What is going on. My doctor has no idea. I take 1 fluid retention tablet a day.

Hello,

(ANS) When you exercise the body looses water, it does this through the breath (exhalation) and also through the skin by sweating. The reason your body feels stiff and swollen is because this is the normal after effects of exercising muscles that are not used to being used in that way before. If you exercise 3 times a week and do this for several months or years the stiffness reduces & almost goes away as the body becomes more accustomed to the work outs.

Muscles (any muscle group) need to be warmed up before any intensive exercising session, you also need to cool down carefully afterwards as well. The cooling down is especially important as it will help reduce the side effects of the exercising. When we exercise our muscles work hard & produce waste products such as lactic acid and its the lactic acid that causes the stiffness a few days later.

**You haven't said anything about why? you need to be on water retention treatment? so its almost impossible to answer your question completely.

Well if you are already seeing a doctor and taking a water pill there is little left for you to do. You did not mention how old you are but if you are older maybe its a heart issue which I am sure the doc would have caught.

Ask your doctor for a referral to a specialist. Something is obviously going on, unless you are eating a lot of salt. Do the fluid retention tablets help at all? I have heard of cases where drugs actually caused the worsening of the condition they were supposed to cure. Try yoga, it might surprise you what it can do.

They say to drink more water . Have you recently stopped smoking because that causes fluid retention for about a year, then the body corrects itself

Why are you taking fluid RETENTION medications if you are suffering from fluid RETENTION? Do you mean diuretic?

The BEST way to stop fluid retention (unless you have a medical disorder) is to drink more water! Your body holds onto every drop it can if you are dehydrating yourself. Try to drink AT LEAST 4 eight-ounce glasses of water per day. If you are on the treadmill for 40 minutes, try to drink 8 eight-ounce glasses of water per day.

By the way, your doctor is an IDIOT. Why? No diagnostic tests, providing "fluid retention" meds without knowing the CAUSE of your problem!!! , not discussing or investigating the possible causes of fluid retention, not discussing or questioning your water intake, not considering that you might have renal failure...I CAN GO ON!!!!!!!!!!
