Walking vs. running on treadmill?!

Question: I'm 24 years old, and I am 6'3" 195 lbs. I have recently started walking on a treadmill instead of running. I set the elevation to the highest possible (15.0) and walk at speed between 3.3 - 3.5 mph. Is this as effective as running on the treadmill at a faster pace but at a flat elevation? I am able to elevate my heart rate to 165+ and burn apprx. 250 calories in a 20 minute time span. I ran long distance track in high school, and I have found this appeals to me more than running. Thanks in advance.

I'm 29 6'0" 197 and I do the same thing except my elevation is 10 and my speed is 3.6. I lost many pounds doing it.

Your heart rate is good at 165+ and you enjoy it, so you are more likely to continue it. Doing what you are doing will help you lose weight or improve your health.

So keep treadmill hiking.

Than you really should be getting more out of it than just ole regular running...

walking or running works better than a treadmill

puts a lot of stress on the leg muscles so it should be good for endurance and strengthening your legs. Should be alright. I would rather walk than run on the treadmill personally, always afraid that a misstep might sling me out the back of the treadmill like in Mr. Woodcock.
