You have to be mentally prepared first. Set a goal, and just do it. Even if you have to force yourself. Eventually you will lose wait. Then you will be motivated. The more you lose, the more you will want to meet your goal.

the body part you gained the weight first will be the last to lose

Stay away from pills, crash diets, gimmicks, and diet-branded products like Slim Fast.

Enjoy a variety of healthy low-fat, high-fibre foods, and watch your portions. Stop eating when you are full.

Get some exercise, even if it's only a little. You don't need to work out for hours a day. Going to the gym for 30 minutes, 3 times a week is better than nothing. Walking around the block at lunch is better than nothing.

Set realistic goals. if you've tried losing weight in the past, you probably have an idea of what your body can and can't do. I know that my body will never weigh 125 lbs, even though that is supposed to be a healthy weight for my height. Expect to lose no more than 1-2 lbs per week. Anything more than that is unhealthy and not sustainable in the long run.

i'd say join weight watchers...it really helps. but if you don't want to spend money, just stick to a good diet [more veggies and fruit, less saturated fat], don't eat as much fried food, or try backing/ broiling more foods than frying. also, start a basic excercise regime to tighten your body as well as lose the weight. if you start exercising though, dont be alarmed if your weight doesn't change too much if you see results; muscle weighs more than fat.

The best way I've found to lose weight is to set small goals to your overall goal and reward yourself along the way. Basically, your overall goal would be, for example, to lose 40 pounds in 6 months. To reach that goal you have to set a reward for yourself. So, your reward for reaching your long term goal would to go for a weekend to the beach to show off your new body. While you're losing weight, you set short term goals (a small goal that will help u reach ur long term goal) so, ur short term goal would be to lose 10 pounds every 2 weeks. It actually works, and it helps you stay motivated. if you slip up you don't feel as bad because your not worrying about losing tons of weight all at once.

Also, the book You On A Diet is great for losing weight. It has exercises, food help, and pretty much everything you need to live a healthy life and lose weight.

Oh, and remember fat weights the same as muscle so some weeks you'll notice weight loss and other weeks you wont. You can't target one area of your body to lose weight in. You lose weight equally all around your body. I suggest not judging your weight lose by the scale, but by body measurements.
