Is it safe to start an exercise routine?!


Question: Im 41, quit smoking 3 years ago. I gained alot of weight over the last 3 years. Im 5'11" and weigh 225lbs. I would like to start exercising but Im afraid I will go jogging in the evening and die of a massive heart attack in my sleep. I have yearly physicals and the EKGs are normal. No high BP yet though its borderline. Is it safe? Should I take it really slow, should I take aspirin every day?

Short answer: yes, it should be safe. Start slowly, so you don't get injured. I know 41 may sound old, but it is still young as far as starting exercise is concerned. I can't promise you won't die of a heart attack in your sleep, but it doesn't sound likely at this point. The best thing you could do (after quitting smoking 3 years ago) is to start aerobic exercising. As for Aspirin, there aren't any definitive studies about its long term benefits. 81mg per day is probably safe (a baby aspirin) as long as it is not irritating your stomach.

This is really good that u have become conscious about ur weight and health

u can start with walk and gradually do brisk walking for at least 6 months, pls do not start with jogging if u r not doing any exercise right now.It is advised that before starting any exercises u consult a physician

See even stress is one reason of weight gain, so if u r more stressed, u put on weight faster.

Do not take any medicine without a Doctors advise, it might do some harm, but routine medical check up is a good thing

Since u quit smoking 3 yrs back, there might be certain things like did u quit suddenly or u followed a Doctors advise? therefore u need to talk to ur Doctor about ur problem and stop getting worried.
