Calories. Weight loss question?!

Question: I heard that you should have about 2,000 calories a day to maintain your weight. If you are trying to loose weight, how many calories should you allow yourself per day? And is the 2,000 calories to maintain accurate?

the calories you should have to maintain your wieght is different for every one and is based off there BMI which isnt that accurate of a indicator anyways. But its a general idea of you current health condition so it helps

this link will help you determine how many calories you can have to maintain your weight and how many to loose weight.

Also if you are exercising and your main goal is to loose weight you need to do cardio at a heart rate level that is probably lower then you think.

http://exercise.about.com/cs/fitnesstool...

this website will tell you what your heart rate should be to optimize fat burning. If you work out too hard your body will need energy fast and take it from you muscles, and when your rest it will build back your muscles not get rid of fat.

Some other tips for a low cal diet:
A lot of soups will be low calorie and the warm temperature seems to fill me up fast

If you little cravings drink water! A lot of times you mistake hunger for thirst. Then try chewing some gum, that helps take my mind off hunger

To maximize your metabolism don't go more then 20% less calories from you maintaining intake. SO if you need 2000 to maintain down go lower then say 1500, your body will just adjust and work of less calories from the shock instead of loose weight. The best way to do this is fluctuate int he 20 % range.

AVOID fasting for longer then a day. Its dangerous and increases your likelihood of binging soooo much.

Good luck with your diet!

It totally depends on your body (size, muscle mass, etc.) and activity level. There are ways to calculate the appropriate amount for you, which I can't really recall at this point. Anyway, you shouldn't try to lose weight by restricting calories, you should try to lose weight by burning more off through excercise.

2000 calories is the normal weight. If you want to lose weight then you should have about 1500 calories. You should only eat healthy calories for snacks such as fruits and vegetables so then you won't have to count those calories because they are healthy. Don't eat fattening chips. Those are soooooo unhealthy if you want to lose weight. and no more chips ahoy cookies. haha, i'm mentioning this because not very many people know that only 2 of those little cookies is 120 calories [ 60 calories each!]
haha. just eat up to 1500 calories max. try not to go more until you've reached the weight you goaled for.

A lot depends on how active you are. More activity burns more calories and raises metabolism, which burns more calories. Low activity slows metabolism and you burn less calories.

If you're looking to loose weight, cut down on fats (not all of them), lower carb intake (not all-your body needs some fuel), keep a fair amount of protein in your diet, and exercise... walking more helps a great deal. Eating more, but smaller, meals a day helps to keep your metabolism at a more stable rate.
