Fitness query ?!

Question: i am 45 and weigh 8stone 12 am 5ft 4". I am keen to maintain this weight. i am also pretty fit and have done exercise for many years.

However recently i had to give up body pump (with weights) as i had horrendous neck pain (been to osteopath, physio, chiropractor etc etc. so i started to go to gym, have stayed off high impact machine like running and bike just use step trainer and cross trainer. But now my knees are agony!!!

i am at my wits end and my husband says my body is trying to tell me something and i should give up exercise (he is a couch potato!) i donht want to do this . any ideas ? I live in Scotland so not easy to go walking as it is always raining! I am not keen on swimming as find it hurts my neck. I already do yoga once a week .

Any ideas?

Well I don't know how fit you are but although you did exercises you always need to begin slowly when you start using new fitness equipment. Especially when you get older you need to slow down.

I would suggest you start with 10 minutes, then 15 and so on. Begin with 2 times a week and increase this slowly in the upcoming weeks. Always try to feel how your body reacts. Are your muscles burning during the workout, do you have sore muscles the next day? If so use the same time you did the last time or take a day of extra rest.

In about 4 weeks you will be able to do 20 to 30 minute workouts 4 times a week.

You also may want to try a supplement called Glucosamine. A lot of people with pain full joints benefit from it.

Hope this helps.

Belly dancing sweetie. It works wonders. I used to teach and do stage performances. I suffered with a bad back, and found the dance very helpful in easing aches and pains,Health warning... highly addictive, and it also gives you a beautiful hour glass shape.
