When Should I Start Building My Mucles?!


Question: I'm 13. I'm afraid to start lifting weights cuz' i heard that if you start too early, you may never grow?
So please, tell me when's the right time for me.

It's not really that you'll never grow, more that you'll mess yourself up in all sorts of ways.

You're still developing and stressing your physical structure can deform your growth pattern, plus your body is straining hard to grow as it is, without the added stress of recovering from a workout (which is when muscles grow).

Wait until you're around 16 before lifting weights. You'll learn all the exercises and correct technique then take off like a rocket as your testosterone levels spike and your body is actually looking for places to put muscle. Right now it's just looking to grow in general, so let it do that first.

Having said that you can do some mild resistance work (weights light enough for at least 20 reps) to build up your endurance fibers and muscle nerve pathways for when you get building your body later. But please, don't be tempted to strain with heavy iron for now.

Right now, right this very instant.

the best time is from 15 or so onwards when your hormone levels increase. Training now wont produce any real bulk on your muscles you wont really increase in size. Best bet is to get your level of fitness high with plenty of regular size so when you start training with weights you'll be able to do more than someone just starting out and has to gain fitness as well
