Does smoking really help in losing weight?!

Question: So my friend started smoking because she said it can help her lose weight. Is it true? I mean how is that really possible? Smoking is suppose to be bad for health. Not to mention the addiction that will develop. So why is it that some of my smoker friends tell me that it can actually help them lose weight???

No smoking does not help you lose you weight but what does happen, when you do try to quit your weight can often go up, 2 factors for this is because - 1 some people eat to curb the craving of nicotine and 2 - it does affect your metabolic system. If your friends are so desperate to lose weight they should try the true method that works - eat healthily, exercise regularly, takes time but shoddy diets, nicotine and drugs don't work.

I guess it would only help you lose weight if you smoke instead of eat but other than that smoking is completely idiotic and ruins your skin and hair and teeth so you basically look like you're in your mid 50's when you're only 40. Trust me it's not worth it. Tell her to eat an apple.

eating less helps you lose weight.

i heard smoking makes you gain weight

it's just an excuse to do something she knows is not good.
it will NOT help her lose weight, it will slow her metabolic rate, and make it harder to lose in fact.
Most of the stories about weight loss come from the fact that those who try to quit the habit, often replace cigarettes with food so they gain weight, smoking seems to reduce weight because they aren't feeding their faces.

Well, smoking IS bad for health and YES, it does help in losing weight. The reason why smoking helps in losing weight is that it curves your appetite. Have you ever seen someone who stopped smoking gain weight? My grandfather smoked for 45 years and then suddenly quit. Needless to say, he gained about 20 lbs in a couple of months because he started eating more. Smoking is not a good way to lose weight. What people don't understand is that eating a healthy diet-- such as fruit, vegetables, fish, poultry, whole grains-- that is healthy. You don't have to go on some sort of fad diet to lose weight..... people just don't tend to understand that and I don't see how.

yes but it clogs your arteries so bad that eventually you will need a bypass of your arteries in your legs because they will get so clogged that you will not be able to walk so please quit smoking if u are or do not even start if u do not smoke

No, smoking won't help loose weight. Unless you count dead as weight loss.

:(

No, it doesn't, and your friend is setting herself up for death. Smoking + being overweight = diabetes, heart disease emphysema and death.
Your friend is an idiot, sorry to say, and so are your friends.
If smoking caused a person to lose weight, I would look like a runway model, and so would millions of other fat smokers.
A balanced diet, watching portion sizes and exercising is the only way to lose weight safely.
Some people gain weight when they try to stop smoking, because they substitute food for the lost addiction to nicotine. But smoking won't stop weight gain, or help lose weight.

Straight to the point: yes it does help you lose weight but not in a good way at all.

The free E-book on this site might be just what you need to help you lose weight. It's a free download so at least it won't hurt to try it.
