What happens to muscle if I stop working out for 6weeks?!

Question: So I am going to have surgery in the upcoming months.... but the doctor stated that I should not heavy lift or run for 4-6weeks. I workout 4~times a week and am planning to workout out that much for the months before surgery. What will happen to the muscle mass that I build? Will I lose muscle in that month and 1/2 break?

I would like some health experts to answer please =).

Thank you

you will lose some but it will come back very quickly. In fact you will probably find that after a week or so back in the gym you are stronger than before. A good layoff now and then is very beneficial.
I was a trainer for 5 years

IM not a health expert, but im pretty sure as long as you eat right, and dont get to lazy, you will keep your muscle.

Its good to take a break once in a while

you will lose it

You turn into a fatso. But good thing is you can dress as Wario for halloween.

yea bro i experienced the same type scenario, for a while you don't gain any wait cause the body is using a whole bunch of energy from calories to heal the injury. However, towards that week 5, week 6, you do end up gaining weight and losing muscle mass. Nothing considerable however. I remember i separated my shoulder playing football and the doctor said "4-6" weeks, and afterwards although i was totally out of shape, i got back together in about a week or two weeks, so yeah its a setback but not a major one.

yes muscles atrophy if not exercised. But one and half months is not that bad. You wont loose that much muscle mass anyways.
