Will the elliptical machine have the same effect as the treadmill?!

Question: I am trying to slim down my legs. I am probably fifteen-twenty pounds overweight and I've been on a diet for a while, but just started exercising. I've lost about twenty pounds but it seems like most of it came from my upper body. Now I'm hoping the last twenty pounds will come from my legs, and I've added doing the elliptical from 40-60 minutes five days a week. Does the elliptical have the same slimming effect as running on a treadmill?

Speaking from personal experience, the elliptical will bust your little butt way better than the treadmill ever could! Try upping the resistance and adding some arms to it (let go of the rail)! A combination of hiking, jump roping, squats, and the elliptical machine eventually gave me that little "leg gap" I always wanted! ;-)

actually, the it'll work better than the treadmill! it has less impact on your knees and allows you to do harder workouts involving more muscles. in fact, my cross country and track coaches always have us use the ellipticals instead of treadmills.
