Injured knees stops exercising - help?!

Question: I have deep tissue damage in both knees and I am having trouble finding easy but helpful exercises to loose weight. I have trouble getting down and up from the floor. I have to hold onto things to get up and down. Does anyone have any suggestions that can I can use or adapt to help tighten tummy, bum, legs etc. I have dumbbells that I use while sitting on a chair and it is helping the upper body but not the lower. I have asked physio's, Doctor's, and even gym owners but get the same answer - don't do anything until the injury heals (14 months ago). I hope someone out there can be of some assistance.
Thanks

It is very important to make sure that your injury has healed. My boyfriend has an ACL in one knee and needs one in the other and he always has pain. The best thing to do, if you haven't already, is physical therapy. Once you get to the point of being able to exercise on your own, the only cardio that I can think of is on a stationary bike in the gym or home (no standing) and exercise in the pool. That is where you are going to find the least pressure on your knee. You really should find a physical therapist though, if you can, and work with them on the injury because you are going to have to strengthen those muscles to ease the pain from the tissue damage.
