Muscle and Fat?!


Question: I don't get it, do you have to lose fat to gain muscle, or gain muscle to lose fat? For example, if you had a lot of fat on your legs, and you worked out on your legs, would the fat burn, and then would you start getting muscles, or would the muscles just come out under the fat? I'm guessing my question is, are the excersices for losing fat and building muscle the same thing, or does building muscle mean losing fat?

they are completely different. high weight low reps=muscle. cardio or low weight high reps=fat loss. a muscular person does burn more fat and calories doing the same thing as someone with less muscle. when you lose a lot of fat, you can look more muscular because u will have better definiton. losing fat does not build muscle and building muscle(while it helps fat burning exercises to be more effective)does not burn fat.

Neither. They are not in a cause-and-effect relationship.

It is true that by increasing your exercise, you can build muscle and burn fat; but the mechanisms for both are only marginally related and can operate independently of each other. Weightlifters who eat like slobs can have pot bellies.

It's possible to lose fat by simply changing your eating habits. Exercise will increase the rate at which you can accomplish that.

Aerobic activity ( gets heart rate up) burns calories,burns up fat!
Strength exercises build muscle.

well, there is a layer of fat under your skin and on top of the muscle. since there is fat, you can't always see the muscle. therefore, since you can't target which part of your body loses fat, as you exercise the layer of fat gets thinner and you muscles look more toned and your body is just leaner.

two separate things, people can lose fat without gaining any muscle and vice versa (gain muscle without losing any fat). If you are gaining muscle it may not show under the fat but it is still there. The connection between weight loss and muscle is that a pound of muscle burns 50 cal a day just by being where a pound of fat burns only 2. So essentially having more muscle raises your metabolism. There is no such thing as spot training a particular body part. We can't help where we lose weight (or fat) but you can tone up an area.
