Carbohydrates?!

Question: Can our body store them to be used later or do they have to be eaten before exercise for maximum effect?

for maximum effect, i would take some carbs at least 30 mins b4 i train. in my experience, it is more effective that way as it hasn been broken down yet. however, don't "eat" anything heavy as this is bound to be counter productive- basically it would slow u down and u might cramp up. a granola bar, an apple, is ok. i however, take a coffee b4 i go. i know coffee is meant to be bad for u, blah blah, but it sure gives u that initial boost u need to get in the zone. lucozade is also effective as its high in sugars, glucose being the main one. hope this helps

The body will digest the carbs. Fats can be stored for later use.

Carbs get broken into sugars. But I'm not sure what the process is called where fats are converted to sugars.

Yes they are stored mostly as fat, but also as sugars.

You should not eat before exercise, because it causes cramp. When you have a meal, your body redirects more blood to you stomach, amongst other things.

If you haven't eaten for a long time, then a sugary drink, glucose tabs, or some fruit is a good idea.
