Bulimia?? help me people!?!

Question: ok so... hi

i'm a bulimic and i know its bad for me, but i want to know how i can stop.

i've been vomiting for about a year now, and i'm 13 years old.
my parents don't know though, my weight has always been up and down my whole life.

my mom is almost never home because she's out late doing god knows what with all her mom crap, but mostly because my dad is always on buisness trips and is sometimes gone for months at a time.

my relationship with my parents isn't very great right now. we've been fighting a lot, but they haven't with my brother and sister. i'm the middle child and am in the 8th grade right now. the stress from the school i go to is AMAZING (taipei american school) and all of the girls are twigs.

i've used a number of things to help me purge, from laxitives to ipecac syrup. from diuretics to enemas.

i know i have a problem, but it cant be that bad, i mean, sometimes my weight goes up and other times it goes down

but i just want help

thanks guys

It's good that you recognize this is a problem for you. It takes a good deal of strength and insight. Bulimics go through cycles of over-eating and purging that can be very destructive to the body. These cycles often involve rapid and out-of-control eating, which may stop when the bulimic is interrupted by another person or when his/her stomach hurts from over-extension, followed by self-induced vomiting or other forms of purging (like laxatives). The damage bulimia does to your body is significant and potentially life-threatening. Calorie deficit in combination with poor nutrition sets the stage for chemical imbalances, especially potassium imbalance, and protein deficiencies that can cause fatal heart rhythms and possibly heart attack (Karen Carpenter suffered from another eating disorder, anorexia, and died of heart failure at age 32). Bulimics are at risk for tooth decay due to the acidity of stomach contents as they pass repeatedly through the mouth as well as rips in the esophagus that may result in potentially life threatening bleeding. Potential health problems include:
-Malnutrition
-Dehydration
-Electrolyte imbalance, which can cause cardiac arrest or brain damage by stroke
-Hyponatremia
-Damaging of the voice
-Vitamin and mineral deficiencies
-Teeth erosion and cavities, gum disease
-Salivary gland swelling (sialadenosis)
-Potential for gastric rupture during periods of binging
-Esophageal reflux
-Irritation, inflammation, and possible rupture of the esophagus
-Laxative dependence
-Peptic ulcers and pancreatitis
-Emetic toxicity due to ipecac abuse
-Swelling of the face and cheeks, especially the lower eyelids, due to the high pressure of blood in the face during vomiting; for the same reason Purpura can occur, a rash caused by burst blood vessels.
-Callused or bruised fingers
-Dry or brittle skin, hair, and nails, or hair loss
-Lanugo
-Edema
-Muscle atrophy
-Decreased or increased bowel activity
-Digestive problems that may be triggered, including celiac and Crohn's disease
-Low blood pressure (hypotension)
-Orthostatic hypotension
-High blood pressure (hypertension)
-Iron deficiency
-Anemia
-Hormonal imbalances
-Depression
-Insomnia
-Amenorrhea
-Infertility
-High risk pregnancy, miscarriage, still-born babies
-Diabetes
-High blood sugar (hyperglycemia)
-Ketoacidosis
-Osteoporosis
-Arthritis
-Weakness and fatigue
-Cancer of the throat or cancer of the voice box
-Liver failure
-Kidney infection and failure
-Heart failure, heart arrhythmia, angina
-Seizure
-Paralysis
-Death caused by heart attack or heart failure; lung collapse; internal bleeding, stroke, kidney failure, liver failure; pancreatitis, gastric rupture, perforated ulcer, depression and suicide.

Please take this seriously. It is easiest to treat eating disorders early on, before irreprable damage is done physically and emotionally. I'd suggest talking to a counselor or therapist. Your parents may be a good source of support, they may just need to realize that you're hurting. Eating disorders are not just about weight. They are about self-image and insecurity and feeling out of control. Please get help to stop this now. Good luck.

I think this site can really help you, support you:

If you really want help you need to see a professional, because if you can't stop doing this on your own don't expect someone on Yahoo answers to correct your problem. Seriously tell you parents and have them bring you to a Dr. who specializes in eating disorders.

if u wanna lose weight so much talk to your doctor, if u dont want ur parents to know that u wanna lose weight, im an EXPERT at that. always ask to go to the grocery store with them, suggest healthy alternatives, say you like the taste, and when rents catch you looking at food labels read aloud how much protein and fiber is in it. never buy anything that has more fat then protein or fiber (thats my rule) eat all ur grains whole, dairy fat free, fruits and vegetables fresh and raw. no soda, not even diet, itll make u want it more as for the bulemic side of it. this is going to be a hard journey, its not going to help u because ur body takes the calories of wht you eat out of your food pretty much as soon as it hits the stomach, but take wahtever you use to throw up, put it in a box, lock it, and give it to a friend that ytou can trust, tell them to help u

you need to see a doctor with this. They will help you plan a healthy diet plan etc. that will help prevent your bulimic tendancies. good luck

hiya, i know how you feel i've been in the same boat as you for on and off for a few years but it got really bad this year, like you no body knows about it , and noone ever really noticed because its not good for weight loss as it stays to same, my face was pasting and i broke out in huge boil like spot, i mean totaly huge lumps under the skin, my teeth and developed a wierd bits at the backs of then that wont go away and they are yellowy grey colour, and was always unhappy and weak with headaches and crying myself to sleep. as soon as i went to my doctor and told them i needed help ( i wrote it on a piece of paper and gave it to doctor rather than forgetting what i was saying) he refered me for councelling and when i ate had an hurge to puke, most of the time i was thinking..god what am i doing..like thinking more clearly after admiting i needed help, and i almost completly stopped making my sick, but still took a few laxatives now and then, but 3weeks later i have stopped

You can speak with the school nurse or a guidance counselor. There may be therapy available to you through your school. At least they can support you when you tell your parents.

It's good that you are asking for help. It means that you realise that there is something wrong and you want to fix it.

Bulimia is a very serious condition. It can cause long term damage to both your body but also your mind. You have to stop but you also have to consider why you are acting in this way.

Many bulimics are unhappy with some part of themselves. It may be you don't think you are slim enough, or that people will like you more if you are thinner.

Whatever the reason for doing what you are doing you need to realise that what you are doing is going to damage you long-term. You should seek help and you should try to make choices which mean you no longer feel like doing what you are doing.

I would advise you to read a self-help guide written by someone called Reka Starr...

http://www.bulimiaselfhelpguide.com/

She suffered from bulimia for ten years before finally making changes to her lifestyle that meant she could leave bulimia behind her.

Hope this helps :)
