My period stopped!?!

Question: I heard that it can stop after weight loss. I'm 5'2 and 92 pounds, but I used to weigh about 112. My BMI is now 16.8, which is in the 19th percentile in the healthy weight range. I lost all that weight in like 2 months? Yeah, and im 13. I have eliminated sodas, chips, and ice cream and candy and other fatty stuff from my diet. I haven't gone to mcdonalds or any other fast food place in months! My last period was like in november. I have also been eating a lot of fruits and drinking a lot of water.

what happened?

Rapid and uneccesary weight loss. The reason the height/weight chart says it's okay for girls your age to weigh less is NOT because it's healthy to diet down to such low weights, but because girls develop at different rates. One girl of 13 might still have the body of at a 10 year old and another girl might have the body of a young woman. If you started developing early, then you should not be weighing only 92lb. I think you shoud speak to your doctor and consider gaining some weight back.

Best advice I can give is go to a doctor and have that checked. You may perhaps have had some menstrual disorder from losing weight.

Listen to me STOP! It sounds as if you are hurting yourself. The amenorrhea (no period) can come from this problem and the change in your diet. 112 to 92-not good. If you thought you were too fat-see a psychiatrist because you may have anorexia. Not healthy.

A healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 25.9. A healthy weight for someone who is 5'2" is between 108 and 143 pounds. you are severly underweight and your period has stopped because you don't have enough fat on your body to trigger your hormones to do their job. Your body thinks that you are starving to death and it is trying to save you by shutting down what it considers an unnecessary bodily function.

Please go talk to someone about your food and body image issues. your life depends on it.

Good Luck.

It is not uncommon for your cycle to stop once your body fat drops below 8-10%... My wife is a fitness competitor in the NPC and for her the switch is right under 9%... Don
