Is it ok to do sit-ups without warming up first?!

Question: or will the abs look weird because the muscles aren't lengthened?

I always encourage the guys I train to do a 10 minute run of varying intensity before they do anything. I also personally do Dynamic stretching, preferred over static stretching. Dynamic stretching is what martial artists do, it is active and fast, and increases flexibility of the joints. Static stretching, where you lay on the floor and touch your toes and whatnot is actually not good for your ligaments and connective fibers.

You should always warm-up before doing any type of exercise.

if you want abs you gotta get rid of the layer of fat ontop of your abs
this is harder for women because we have an extra natural layer
so eat well, the muscle should already be built underneath

my health teacher at college once told me that stretching is pointless, and he used the example of ... imagine bacon being frozen, if you bend it, it'll break...same with your own muscles.. he said people still strentch basically because of tradition... now i don't know if he's right or wrong, that's just what he told me..

i do know that the first ..i think 10 minutues.. of any workout doesn't even matter... so maybe that's why it's good to stretch? i mean.. i wouldn't waste all your time and energy doing sit-ups when it doesn't count for anything

Well sit ups work you abdominal area....any stretching of the abs is just the same as sit ups just working it in a different way there are so many ways to work it. Your abs can handle the constant workout I read in muscle magazines that yer abs are the only muscle you can work out everyday without any weird issues happening.

Crunches are where it's at. They work the abs better and won't cause back pain in the future.
