YUM!!! Homemade soup is always a better choice because canned always has way too much sodium/salt, which will cause you to retain water and look heavier. The calorie content would depend on the amount you ate. What you describe, if your mom did not use oil or butter, I am guessing it would probably be about 250 calories per cup and be fairly low in fat if the chicken is lean w/no skin. It sounds healthy as to the nutrient content, but the carrots, rice and potatoes all have carbohydrates. Since the carbohydrates outnumber the protein by 3 to 1, this may not be the best food to use alone as a weight-loss choice. However, if you limit it to a smaller portion, it is OK. A good thing to make this a balanced meal is to add a big salad, using dark green vegetables, mushrooms and cucumbers, with a small amount of vinaigrette dressing or a cup of broccoli or other green veg. Drink alot of water throughout the day, too.

Very healthy! There is probably some fat in the chicken, but all good fat.
