Answers: I currently take protein and lift 4-5 times a week. I recently decided to start running as well, but i am not sure if it will hinder my muscle building if i run right after a workout.

that would really depend on intensity and duration of your runs. resistance training is catabolic by nature, so after the conclusion of exercise the body has a negative protein balance. after about 1.5-2 hours of continuous high intensity exercise the levels of catabolic hormones begin to rise drastically and stay elevated for hours. this would have a negative effect on anabolism over a period of time. that being the case you either want to fit your weight training and runs into a 2-hour period or separate the 2 with at least a meal and a snack between them and about 4-6 hours of time. you could obviously perform then on seperate days. personally I train with weights for 2 days straight, then have a day of high intensity cardio/abs, then repeat the cycle.

I'd probably run a little before a workout to get warmed up. If you want to run try it on a non-workout day or cardio day.

It depends on the intensity of the workout. If the workout was intense, and you are tired and you don't think you could have done more, then don't run because your glycogen stores are low, and you might be using protein/amino acids for fuel, thats why its recommended to take in protein and simple carbs after a workout.

But, if it wasn't a big workout, then a 20 min run or so shouldn't do any harm, unless you over do it.

no it won't hinder your hard work! it'll actually increase blood flow and possibly relieve muscle soreness as it mobilising you muscle, stretching is a must for recovery of weight training aswell... if you don't stretch...thats why muscles become sore, the blood stays locked inside the muscle and causes that feeling of tightness and sometimes makes it difficult to move with out pain for a few days.

no its actually good to run after your finished lifting weights because running will tone your body. When running everytime your feet hits the floor you are using your body weight as a weight so your actually lifting weights while running. but you will lose more calories if your not looking to lose weight. and drinking a protien shake 30- 45 minutes after a workout inhibits more muscle growth because thts when muscles are building!!
