Is red meat bad on a diet?!

Question: This is what I ate today -

breakfast - egg whites with a tortilla
lunch - pasta, sandwhich on whole wheat bread and turkey with a small side salad
snack - a cup of ice cream and pretzels

CARDIO for 30min

Now for dinner my mom is makeing red meat, rice and salad.

I will eat a small amount of red meat and a salad - no rice.

Is this OKAY?

I know I shouldn't have ate the ice cream but it wasnt a large amount it was just a cup of ice cream, and the pasta I KNOW - CARBS, but I ate labout a cup of pasta too.

AFTER dinner Im going to do some crunches and sit ups.

HOW DOES THIS SOUND?

Red meat is fine - like the others said, keep it lean and eat a reasonable portion size - about the size of the palm of your hand.

About carbs - they just have a bad rap. Our bodies need carbs for optimal performance - we just need good carbs - whole grains, little-to-no processing is fine and great for our bodies. Whole grain carbs, like brown rice and quinoa or bulgur, actually cleanse our digestive tracts of residues. Just be aware to not eat white or processed carbs too much (white bread, flour tortillas, processed pasta, etc).

I'd like to see some fruit in your day. Also, I see you had pretzels, which could be fine, but if you like salty snacks, maybe try some nuts. Almonds and walnuts are especially good for their omega-3 fatty acids. And maybe add some veggies to your breakfast - try onions, peppers or tomatoes with your egg whites and you'll be off to a good start for the day!

Lean red meats are ok, but not a lot. You should really stay away from red meats. Especially if you are trying to lose weight or if you want to get abs.

Red meat is fine as long as it's lean. This meat has plenty of protein and very few carbs.

But you are right..you've got to cut the carbs if you want to see progress. I only know this because I was diagnosed with Diabetes three weeks ago and can only have 45-60 carbs per meal. So that's virtually no pasta or regular bread, rice, etc. But the pounds are going to come off with my new food plan and exercise.

Just so ya know, a serving of ice cream is 1/2 cup. You consumed around 300 calories if you really did have a whole cup of ice cream. Not good.

Anyway, the rest of your day seemed really healthy. Red meat is fine. Anything is fine in moderation. Chicken or fish is just healthier. You'll be fine so long as you don't have red meat daily or more than a couple times a week.

I really would recommend more turkey and chicken though. There's tons of protein that helps you build muscle which burns more calories than fat.

If you are dieting calories are the king to watch. There does seem to be a lot of carbs in your daily menu since a sandwich has a couple slices of bread, that alone is 200 calories on average. The salad is good if you use a low or no fat dressing in moderation. The pasta I am going to assume was another salad?, if so the dressing is probably as high in calories and fat as the pasta. Pasta by itself, if it is whole grain is good for you, in moderation. It is all the additions to a pasta salad that can make it fattening.
Lean red meat is not a problem if you limit serving size to about 3-4 ounces and do not cook it with any additional fats.
There are low fat icecreams that can be enjoyed and should be with a good balanced diet. It can take the place of another dairy item too. If you are a serious dieter please take a good multivitamin daily so you do not get run down. This is very important because you can not get the vitamins and minerals your body needs while dieting if you don't.

Well done for wanting to watch your weight and eat health foods. Avoid saturated or animal fats such as beef por or lamb, these have been implicated in cholesterol and heart disease problems. Use unsaturated fats found in vegetable oils such as olive, sunflowe and safflower oil. Try fish like herring, mackerel, salmon and tuna. Good luck!
