Weight loss and the way people treat you. Have you noticed the change?!

Question: People are shallow. Sorry, but i have noticed this recently. I am still overweight, but I have lost a bit and I the way people treat me, even strangers, has changed. People hold doors open for me, they smile at me, and talk to me something which never happened before. Now this gets me angry because its all about weight for some people.

Yeah you'd be surprised to be honest how shallow people can actually get. Its quite sickening when you think about it, I don't really agree with some peoples answers on here.. Especially the one about that fat people are unattractive and need to do exercise or something, You don't really understand what someone, Who is actually overweight is thinking, They might be too embarrassed about doing exercise in case people look at them and think 'Gaawwwd ain't they unfit' or 'Look at the size of them' If people took this into consideration, then maybe they wouldn't always criticise people for the way they look. I know when I used to be overweight, Still am a little porker but I'm working at it, But anyway yeah it's amazing how different people treat you, You shouldn't get angry though..You should be proud of the achievements you've reached :) it sounds to me like you've done a great job and you should be proud! so well done and don't let the people get you down by their kindness.. Just hold your head up high and smile =D Good luck!! :)

Definitely! It is such a sad reflection on society! I have been both very skinny and quite large, when large I feel invisible, ironically! You're right, people walk into you, don't hold doors etc! It's like people look right through you when you're a chubby! Very sad.

Ooh and another thing, people say 'you look so pretty now your thin!' Why?, I haven't had plastic surgery just lost a stone or two!! And were you saying I was ugly before!!!?
Crazy that heavier is seen as uglier.

havnt you already asked this one time?

it serves fat people right
they don't look good and should go do some exercise

very true

it isnt all about the weight have u eva thort that it dpends on the kinda person. yeh most peeps dnt like 2 help fat peeps but some pople do u mite of just come across some nice people that dnt care what someone looks like

so just think before u go ahead and accuse someone of being shallow yh

A lot of overweight women I've treated have low self-esteem and avoid eye contact as a result. When they start to lose weight, their confidence increases and they look more relaxed and happier. I would say this rubs off on the people they come in contact with, who then feel more comfortable approaching and relating to them.

Don't be angry - be happy that you're becoming the person you want to be. And - well done, keep it up!

Very true. I am also overweight but lost over a stone. People say I have a really pretty face and when the stone came off, I did look much different. I had guys chatting to me at bars and wanting to dance in clubs, guys would glance more at me. The only reason I noticed this attention is because I wasn't used to it.
But yeah, I know where you're coming from. But who cares what other people think, as long as you're happy losing weight, keep going and congrats on the weight you've already lost.

Two possible reasons why people hold doors open for you now that you have lost some weight are, a) you are probably more attractive than before and , b)maybe they thought you would not have got through the door if they had held it open for you when you were fat, very embarrassing for all parties.Keep up the weight loss programme& good luck.

Yes. I remember going into a well known high street store when I was a size 22 and being talked down to by the staff and treated like they didn't want me wearing their clothes. When I went in as a Size 14, they were all over me and couldn't help me enough.

Oh yes, that is so annoying, I lost 4st 7lb last year and suddenly found people actually spoke to me instead of shouting at me, I think people think you become deaf when your fat, some people have told me I look great whilst others have told me I've lost too much and don't look as pretty, those are the same people who said I was a fat ugly bugger, your right, how shallow are people today, you have to have been fat to understand what its like.
