The average is 8 glasses (8 fl. oz) which would be 64 fl. oz. However if you aren't very active, you can drink less and if you are very active, drink more.

Take your weight, divide by 2, that is how many ounces. 200lb person = 100 oz water a day

I heard...8 cups?

At least 8 glasses a day but they say that if you are overweight you should drink at least 1/2 your body weight in oz. per day to lose weight.

Yes, eight servings of water is the minimum you should drink. But you should really take your weight in pounds and divide it by two, then drink that many ounces of water.
