Protein powder and veggies diet?!

Question: I want to go on a diet of protein powder (mixed with soymilk or water), veggies (salads, broccoli, carrots, any vegetable really), and fruits. Plus take vitamins full of stuff I need (GNC mega teen vitamins). I need to lose about 50 lbs. Will this diet work?

Please don't give me half answers, if you say no or have a suggestion then elaborate please. THANKS!!!

Well add alittle fiber and their should be no problem. But I dont think this would be the best way to lose weight, especially that much.

ew idk

As long as you are getting your body's minimum intake of 1200 calories a day (so you stay healthy), go for it. It sounds like that plan will get you the nutrients you need.

Augment your veggies with fruit.

Maybe, but if you want to loose weight, and be healthy while doing so, read "the abs diet" or "the abs diet for women."

probably you just gotta maintain that diet and do some excercising in the gym or at home

You need to round out the diet you can eat what you regularly eat , you just have to portion it out

listen...you can lose weight without having to go on food diets. HIT THE GYM. or just have a 20 min jog everyday. If you dont eat you'll just upset your stomach. EVEN IF ITS VEGGIES. my opinion i hope i helped

your starving your self in a sense eat a bit more just exercise more too and take some vitamins too to not let a lack of somethin in your system

the trick to controlling the body is this: control your calorie intake, and make sure you exercise off more calories than you intake. you don't have to get on these crazy, and not so tastey diets. you just have to have self control. eat two slices of pizza instead of one. drink water instead of soda. take the stairs instead of the elevator. its that simple. but if you want to suffer by dieting, then do whatever you want.

No don't kill yourself like that. You'll give up in a week.

Eat healthiER. Don't try to become a health freak all at once. Eat more fruits and veggies and less crap. Drink water and milk.

Protein powder? What for? Unless you plan to do strength training also, which you should, then it's pointless. It will sit in your gut unless you drink it after a workout, then it will help heal your muscles.

If you want to lose 50 lbs you should really do three things:

1) Eat healthier
2) Strength training
3) Cardiovascular activity (30-45minutes)

If you have a gym membership go to to the gym every other day, lift weights and then do something to get your heart rate up for at least 30 minutes.

Good Luck.

just eat when your hungry
did cave men have 5 a day and calories? no they didnt

and daily intake for women is 2000 not 1500 or whatever the girl up there said

This sounds pretty good. Just remember there are good fats and there are bad fats. You still need some fats just make sure they are good fats. Avocados are a good source as well as chicken breasts and nuts. If you want to accelerate things you need to up your calorie usage by being more active than you previously were. Also lots of fiber will help you feel full longer lengthening the time between meals. Rolled oats (oatmeal) keeps you full for a long time and is a good source of energy. Good Luck.

Be very careful what protein shakes you diet with. some actually make you gain weight. The best diet I ever went on was one EAS protein shake for Breakfast and lunch then at dinner time I had a simple dinner while I worked out once a day for at least 20 minutes. on day one I would work on my arms with weights then the next day I did cardio by running on the treadmill. I would switch back and fourth with the work out and it work well. I was able to take the weight off and keep it off for a long time. My wife did what was called the sacred Heart diet and lost 16 lbs in a week. But during the diet she was really irritable. Good luck with that But remember make sure you will loose weight with the protein shakes.

That diet will only work if you consuming less calories than you are buring (don't go below 1200). Going below 1200 calories a day will put your body into starvation mode & you will hold onto fat rather than lose it. Plus your body starts to use exisiting muscle for fuel, which is bad!

You need to be really careful with that diet though, because some protein powders are high in calories and fat. My question is are you substituting protein powder for lean proteins because you are a veggitarian OR because you don't eat enough lean meats to get enough protein? If its because you don't get enough protein through lean meats like chicken breast, then the powders would be a nice suppliement between meals. With the liquid diet, your right, you need to eat fruits and veggies for fiber in your diet. I do the same diet when I'm try to cut my overall body fat percentage & will be doing to for competition prep.

Steps to make sure that your diet will suceed:

-calculate your BMR & subtract 500 calories a day (for loss of 1lb week). If you are going to be working out, subtract 750 calories a day & add 30 mins of cardio a day, 5 days a week for 2 lbs a week.
-don't skip meals, it will cause you to get hungrier, resulting in gorging on food the next meal. I recommend that you eat every 2-3 hours (300-400) calorie meals
-eat within 1 hour of waking
-add strength training into your workout, muscle burn more calories than fat.
-steady exercise habits will increase you BMR over time, that means your metabolism increases
-read the nutrition label on your protein powders, make sure to get low in fat & cholestrol.
-GNC costs a ton, if your going to be consuming alot of it, go to supplementstogo.com to get it cheaper (up to 60% off)
-be realistic with your weight loss (8-10lbs a month is realistic), so plan for 5 months for your 50lb loss
-let yourself have 1 cheat meal a week; (all work and no play makes me very grumpy)

If your not a veggitarian: try not to supplement all of your protein intake with powder. The point of a diet is to create healthy choices that you can maintain for life. You need to know what meats to eat & what to put on them.

Why not just eat a serving of meat and some veggies? The problem with your proposed diet plan is that it is not sustainable.

If you can stay on it long enough to lose weight, the minute you resume your former eating pattern, you will balloon up to what you weighed to begin with PLUS more!

Losing weight should not be your goal without a commitment to change your eating habits for the long term success you also seek.
